| Johnny Kidd & The Pirates - Shakin' All Over Johnny Kidd was one of British rock’s major stars of the pre-Merseybeat era and this album, fittingly a vinyl only release, sums up the 1959-62 period when all things seemed possible and Britain really was ‘Shakin’ All Over’. The title track of the LP remains a rock ‘n’ roll classic. | Miss Mary Ann & the Ragtime Wranglers - Danger Moved West Here’s the long-awaited new release of Miss Mary Ann & the Ragtime Wranglers “Danger Moved West”. It contains 16 songs: catchy ones writ- ten by Miss Mary Ann herself, some by Californians Carl Sonny Leyland and Dave Stuckey plus some covers like the title track. Style of the album: rockabilly / rock and roll.The recordings have been made with vintage equipement while playing live in the studio. The band managed to catch a much stronger live feel onto tape then on their earlier albums. Easy for the band this time, because all of the studio sessions took place in between tours through Europe and concerts in the USA and Russia.This time Miss Mary Ann decided to write and record more danceable songs, like “Little Ole You”, “You Made a Hit” and “Do You Wanna Rock”; songs that are just asking to be picked-up by the dj’s. These are alter- nated with some mid-tempo songs in which Mary Ann’s stunning voice stands out even more; just listen to “Strange Things” or “Make the Most of It”. Guest musicians on the album are New Ranch Girl “Pepper”, singing superb harmony vocals at 2 tracks, plus “Boogie Woogie Hall of Famer” Carl Sonny Leyland at the piano on his own song “Honey” and one extra. Both guests already shared stage with the band at various festivals; they fit in just perfectly. |

| VA: - Later Alligator 2LP Louisiana Rock'n'Roll Fantastic Voyage continues its mission to unearth and collate America’s huge regional rock ‘n’ roll heritages by heading down to Louisiana for Later Alligator, a rare gumbo blend of Big Easy R&B, Cajun country, rampant blues-boogie and Bayou swing, served up over four sides brimming with lesser-heard originals and mouth-watering obscurities. Compiled by Lucky Parker in conjunction with Wild Wax Show DJ ‘Jailhouse’ John Alexander, Later Alligator deftly demonstrates the fabulous range of styles running rampant in the Pelican State in the 1950s-60s, kicking off with Louisiana’s most infamous son, Jerry Lee Lewis. The unmistakably rolling ‘Lewis Boogie’ was originally the flip of post-scandal statement, ‘The Return Of Jerry Lee Lewis’. Fellow rockers include ‘Suzie-Q’ titan Dale Hawkins, Bobby Charles [with the title track], Rod Bernard, Roy Brown, Frankie Ford, Fats Domino, Chris Kenner, Tibby Edwards, Johnny Ray Harris, Champion Jack Dupree, Mickey Gilley, Clarence ‘Bon Ton’ Garlow and many more. Several tracks are drawn from the local independent labels including Goldband, Jin, Ace, Ram and Vin, introducing a fervently attractive streak for record collectors. As with all Fantastic Voyage expeditionary releases, the set’s allure is further hot-wired by oddities and curios, here including a 13-year-old Dolly Parton wailing ‘Puppy Love’ or the Cajun accordion swamp gas of Cleveland Crochet’s ‘Sugar Bee’. Strangest of all is Jay Chevalier, crooning about the Cuban missile crisis over guitar and bongos before a major explosion at the end. There’s a tangible spirit and energy coursing through these tracks rarely found in today’s music which was even unique to the state of Louisiana back then; it’s own brand of spiced-up, cross-fertilising rock ‘n’ roll and country twang, all bathed in steamy swamp fever. To have so many towering examples gathered together on one set is cause for celebration and no-holds-barred whoopee. |

| Southern Culture On The Skids - Zombified LP+CD Zombified, Southern Culture On The Skids’ tribute to the horror and exploitation movies that populated Southern theaters and drive ins during the 60s and 70s, is being reissued this fall on Kudzu Records. Originally released in Australia as an eight song EP in 1998, the Zombified Extended Reissue is now a full album with the addition of five new tunes and will receive its first U.S. release September 27. The new and improved Zombified has been re-mastered and re-packaged with cover art by Sean Starwars and design by Yee-Haw Industries. Rick Miller, guitarist and singer for the band says, "You know the Zombified EP never had a proper U.S. release and the band is excited about it happening now as a full album."
