| Cramps - File Under Sacred Music: Early Singles 1978-1981 10 x 7" Vinyl Singles + a stamped envelope with memorabilia. Very well done compilations of The Cramps early singles. Plus some tracks from the same period that were never issued on the single format. The vinyl box-set contains six repro sleeves and four new sleeves designed for this box-set. The Cramps were record collectors before they were a band. When Erick Purkhiser and Kristy Wallace met in 1972, they discovered they were both into the same kind of thing: the music of 15 years or so earlier that had been all about kitsch and shock and sleaze, with shitty sonics and snarling, hiccuping singers, and hilarious over-the-top bravado. In the early 1970s, being into "50s rock'n'roll" meant American Graffiti and Sha Na Na and "Happy Days". Wallace and Purkhiser preferred the nasty also-rans-- the records that actually tried to be the threat to society that people sometimes pretended pop music could be. It wasn't much of a leap to starting their own band in the same mode. Purkhiser reinvented himself as Lux Interior, the slavering, writhing, nearly naked, ectomorphic frontman of the Cramps, and Wallace was Poison Ivy Rorschach, a "bad girl" in leather and wigs and velvet who tore off one ichor-dripping 12-bar guitar riff after another. They didn't have a whole lot in common with their early punk scenemates other than big guitar noise, but punk rock gave them license to do sleazy, shocking, sopping wet rock'n'roll without having to bother with the usual thin veneer of respectability. The Cramps were an institution for over 30 years, until Lux's death in 2009. They were one of the few punk-era bands who were well served by aging, since they were trying to come off like creepy, depraved old people in the first place. But they were always a better singles band than an album band, and a way better live act than a singles band. Most of the songs that made their reputation are collected on this suitably trashy set. The vinyl version of File Under Sacred Music is, appropriately, a "collectible" box of the band's first 10 singles in replica sleeves--or rather, it would be except that four of them were never actually issued as singles at the time. (The Cramps always did snicker at anything that claimed to be authentic.) That's probably the ideal way to hear this material: Lux, Ivy, and their ever-rotating associates made the kind of strong, silly records that are best in hot-sauce doses of between three and six minutes. They occasionally came up with fabulously personal-space-invading originals like "Human Fly" and "New Kind of Kick", the latter of which features two lines that explain their raison d'être: "Life is short/ Filled with stuff" and "I learned all I know by the age of nine." The better part of File Under Sacred Music, though, is the crate-digging covers that were their calling card. Their first single (produced, like a lot of their early material, by Alex Chilton) was a cover of one of the most familiar trash-rock staples, "Surfin' Bird", extended to five minutes with a sloppy gnarl of guitar and drum noise. They subsequently shied away from anything that familiar. Instead, they turned their attention to obscurities whose quirks they exaggerated to the point of perversion. Jack Scott's "The Way I Walk" was slowed down to a psychotic limp, with Lux hyperventilating every line and Ivy screaming bloody murder in the background; Ronnie Cook & the Gaylads' nutty novelty "Goo Goo Muck" turned into a hilariously lascivious threat on which Lux shrieked, trilled, gurgled, and enunciated the title like it referred to whatever bodily fluids your parents feared most. The title of File Under Sacred Music is a joke about the dusty record stores the Cramps loved, as well as about their own discography: Songs the Lord Taught Us was the title of their first album, Songs the Cramps Taught Us the name of one of the many series of bootlegs of the original songs they covered. But the amazing, out-of-control music they saved from oblivion could show them up, at least on record. To hear the Novas' feral pro-wrestling novelty "The Crusher" ("Do the hammerlock, ya turkeynecks!") next to the Cramps' cover is to understand the difference between lunatics who've somehow ended up with a mic in front of them and record collectors doing a solid, deliberate impression of lunatics. |

| Koffin Kats - Our Way & The Highway After more than a thousand shows and eight years of international touring, "the road" is where Detroit-based Koffin Kats now call "home." The Koffin Kats take the Motor City attitude and mix it into a toxic blend of booze, tattoos and thumbing psychobilly punk rock 'n' roll. The trio kicked things off in June 2003 with a mission to not stop for anything. Vic Victor (Lead Vocal, Upright Bass) joined forces with long-time friend Tommy Koffin (Guitar) and started laying the groundwork for the sonic assault known as The Koffin Kats. They put together songs with subjects ranging from Sci-Fi to dealing with the horrors of the real world. With Eric "E Ball" Walls on drums, they began by playing for beer in small local bars, eventually made their way out of the Midwest. The next couple of years proved to be up with numerous North American tours and down with numerous drummer changes. During this time they released their first three albums — S/T (2003), "Inhumane" (2005), and "Straying from the Pack" (2006). These releases and the tours helped get the name of "The Koffin Kats" noticed in the wide world of punk and psychobilly. In 2007, Vic and Tommy hooked back up with Eric for their fourth album, "Drunk in the Daylight" (2008), and began making the Kats what are now known for today...NONSTOP TOURING AND MAKING EVERY SHOW A PARTY. With their love for their fans and for the road they set out to play everywhere someone was willing to listen. In recent years, they have been able to make a name for themselves in Europe as well and have been included on tours with some of the tops acts in psychobilly, such as Mad Sin, Nekromantix and The Meteors. In 2009 they released "Forever For Hire" and at year's end Tommy left the band to pursue a normal life. Shortly thereafter, EZ Ian Jarrell took over the guitar and hopped on tour. While on the road, the trio worked on material for a split album with The 12 Step Rebels, which was released in the spring of 2011. Now The Koffin Kats have signed with Sailors Grave Records for the release of "Our Way & The Highway", a culmination of all things KK with their rich history, road scars, and outlaw psycho punk blood running furiously through every ear-ripping track. |

| Meteors - Doing The Lords Work THE METEORS started thirty years ago as a reaction against the soft rockabilly that was popular at that time, and they have now evolved to become the acknowledged "Kings of Psychobilly". | Peacocks - Don't Ask The first THE PEACOCKS show took place back in 1990. The band was Hasu on guitar, Adi on drums and Michi on double bass. The music was very rockabilly orientated poppy psychobilly with lots of cover songs. After playing a few birthday parties THE PEACOCKS broke up because Michi left the band, but one year later THE PEACOCKS restarted again as a three piece completed by Simon, Hasu's brother, who learned the double bass. This constellation lasted out for five years while they recorded three seven inches on their own, that have been sold out now for ages. Afterwards it was time for THE PEACOCKS to record their first regular album called "Come With Us" in 1995. Right before the first US/Canada tour, Adi decided to leave the band. The tour only could happen because the third Langhardt brother David knew all THE PEACOCKS songs so far, and jumped in as drummer. The tour was quite successful and a new drummer called Toni joined the band after they returned to Switzerland. Around 1997 THE PEACOCKS started to tour almost everywhere in the world, including Japan, the U.S., Canada and every European country. THE PEACOCKS recorded two more albums "In without knocking"(1998) and "Angel"(2001). Both records did alright and with "Angel", the band signed to Asian Man Records. Early in 2002 Toni had to leave the band because he couldn't tour anymore. With 3 kids he decided it's better to have a proper job. It took quite a long time for THE PEACOCKS to find a new drummer, but at the end of 2002 Jürg joined THE PEACOCKS and the band started again rockin'. In 2004 THE PEACOCKS released "It’s time for...The Peacocks" on five different record labels in five different countries and also three different continents. THE PEACOCKS toured again in almost every country in Europe, heading also successfully back to Canada and Japan. In 2006 Hairball 8 records did a best-of release for the U.S. market, followed by huge tour through 14 states. The band decided to stay in the US after the tour to record a new album at Sonic Iguana in Lafayette Indiana. Next important step in the bands history was the signing to “PEOPLE LIKE YOU RECORDS” in 2007, they released their label debut “Touch And Go” right away followed by a lot of touring through Europe in their old van. The “Touch And Go” sessions left a lot of material which was decided to put out as a ten inch called “The Best Of The Rest And The Left Overs” in 2008. Two years were needed, filled with a lot of amazing shows in the whole world, after THE PEACOCKS decided to head back in the studio to record a brand new record. After a couple of months “After All” was finished, it was released in March 2010 on PEOPLE LIKE YOU RECORDS. In September 2010 “After All” will hit the U.S. stores in cooperation again with PEOPLE LIKE YOU RECORDS THE PEACOCKS are now around for nearly 20 years. And they will stay forever. They’re cool and they look smart. But the most important thing is that they love what they do and are still hungry to play live! | Tony Montanas - Mafiabilly If there's any band hailing from the rockin' underground of Germany that deserves so much more recognition than it gets, it has to be THE TONY MONTANAS. Regardless whether it was due to a lack of self-promotion, their general nonconformist attitude or band members literally locked away from the rest of the Psychobilly cosmos, in the past the Swabian three-piece always seemed to be unable to take the next step forward to rockin' notoriety. A lineup change a couple of years ago really did wonders for the the Mafiabilly experience and the reshuffled trio already left their mark on the Psychobilly Ratpack compilation with an exclamation point! Their second full-length album is a beast of a record anyway and if it doesn't turn the spotlight on these lads any brighter, I'll sort myself out and start listen to chart music. This package of mostly original material is a terrific mix of Rockabilly, Punk, ace musicianship and well-crafted songs with Italian harmonies and Tarantino type images of violence thrown into the mix that causes a very trademark sound that simply stuck in your head. To name but a few highlights I'd like to pick the amazing title theme that is an helluva intru-mental, the catchy sing-along Six Feet Below, the traditional Psycho rockin' theme that is Phantom Voices, live favourite Fick Dein Leben Crew, Judgement Day, Someone's Gonna Die Tonight, a song that sees the listener switching on a fake radio between the likes of The Nekromantix and Stray Cats before finally settling down with the song of THE TONY MONTANAS. A very strong cover version of Body Count's Cop Killer, Family and Bleed Me a Song are the best of the rest. |

Uusi kokoelma antaa jälleen hyvää kuvaa siitä mitä tapahtuu ja on tapahtunut genressä ja sen liepeillä. Skandinaavien johdolla tällä kokoelmalla mennään ja varsin ansaitusti, mutta toki sanansijaa annetaan muillekin genren top-artisteille Euroopasta ja USAsta. Ruotsista on mukana levyn avaava JLT (John Linberg Trio), jonka tuore albumi Hell Of A Ride kipusi julkaisuviikollaan Ruotsin listan kolmanneksi toisen sijan mennessä The Playtones-ryhmälle, jota myös tällä kokoelmalla kuullaan. Niinikään Ruotsia edustaa legendaarinen Jerry Williams, jonka ura on jatkunut jo vuosikymmenien ajan naapurimme rock´n´roll-ympyröissä ja versio Bluejean Bop-klassikosta on äijän viime albumilta, jolla taustoista vastaavat mm. Fatboyn jäsenet. Fatboy nauttii suurta suosiota Suomessa ja täälläkin useasti vierailleena on oikeutetusti mukana myös tällä levyllä What Would Elvis Do?-biisillään. Ruotsin Euroviisu-finaalissa Melodifestivalenissa itsensä sijalle 6. hinannut Top Cats ja luotettava hot rod rock´n´roll-jyrä The Go Getters täydentävät Ruotsin edustuksen. Suomen osuudesta vastaavat pitkän linjan konkarit Francine mainiolla versiollaan Tainted Love-biisistä ja Sami Roineen liidaama The Stringbeans hulvattomalla Tarzanillaan, jonka on tuottanut Boz Boorer. Rockin´ 8-Balls täydentää kuvion energiaa tihkuvalla versiollaan Shirley Lee rockabilly-klassikosta. Skandinaavien osuuteen tuo vielä oman panoksensa norjalainen Lucky Bullets, joka vuonna 2011 oli ansiokkaasti mukana Norjan Euroviisu-finaaleissa ja on tärisyttänyt tunturimaan musiikkiskeneä autenttissävyisellä rockabillyllään. Ryhmä kävi myös vakuuttamassa suomalaiset alan harrastajat keväisillä Suomen keikoillaan. Kansainvälisestä yhteistyöstä näytteen antaa Hot Rod Rhythm Boys versiollaan Emiliana Torrinin Jungle Drum-biisitä, vokaalien & kitaroinnin mennessä legendaarisen neobilly-ryhmä The Restlessin Mark Harmanin kontolle suomalaisen taustaryhmän hoidellessa muun musisoinnin. Brittien Jack Rabbit Slim on yksi genren tämän hetken suosituimmista ja arvostetuimmista rockabilly-ryhmistä antaen tällä kokoelmalla näytteen rauhallisemmasta ja tunnelmoivasta puolestaan. Irlantilais-lähtöisen Imelda Mayn voi varsin perustellusti sanoa olevan yksi tämän päivän tunnetuimista rockabilly-genrestä ponnistavista akteista ja joka on saanut hyvin näkyvyyttä ja kuuluvuutta yli musiikkirajojen lähivuosien aikana niin Briteissä kuin muuallakin Euroopassa unohtamatta pohjoista Amerikkaa ja Japania. Tälle kokoelmalle valikoitunut Imeldan Psycho-biisi ei todellakaan jätä ketään kylmäksi. Muun euroopan tasosta antaa oivan näytteen pitkän linjan rockabilly-ryhmä Hillbilly Moon Explosion Enola Gay-lainallaan. Rapakon takaista osaamista tuo kokoelmalle Brian Setzer omalla versiollaan Red Hot-biisistä, joka on yksi rockabillyn biisiklassikoiden kulmakivistä ja tuoreempaa näkemystä saamme Hillbilly Casinolta, joka talvella käväisi myös Suomessa keikoilla. Ja kyllä, myös heidän biisinsä on nimeltään Psycho. |

| Magnetix - Boo-Bop-A-Boo One of the biggest talent emerging from the ever-expanding Russian scene has to be THE MAGNETIX. Hailing from Tula, south of Moscow the classic three-piece has been making a name for itself within a few months of existence. Formed by former Stressor guitar ace and lead singer Taras Savchenko , doghouse maniac Dimitry Bikov and skin banger Alexander Vtorov the threesome stunned the Psychobilly microcosm earlier this year 'With Their Amazing First Album' (literally !!!). As their initial offering has been well received since day one and did all well with the critics, it was decided to keep on spreading the word of distortion-free guitar playing, zombie-free song-writing and all-crazy stompin' sounds as soon as possible and to waste no further time to nail a follow-up release again on Germany's premier Crazy Love label.... 'BOO-BOP-A-BOO' From first guitar go, these Sputnik kats make sure that didn't intend to reinvent neither the wheel nor Psychobilly as a genre when they were booked into the studio in January 2011. These guys just created a full-blown Rockabilly frenzy that was most popular during the mid-eighties heyday of this type of music and leaves the listener with the shadow of a doubt whether this release is a long-lost gem from the good ole days or just an instant classic (the later one more likely!). Saying all that THE MAGNETIX are far more than copy-cat Batmobile or an 80's Psychobilly cover band and the second album teems with cool compositions, infectious enthusiasm and healthy variations of speeds and themes. Just to prove me right I'd like to mention that eleven out of thirteen tracks are originals. The album kicks off with the wild, soon-to-be band anthem It's Magnetic Me and the rockin' doesn't stop until final touches of their tribute-ish cover of the Rochee & The Sarnos rarity Woman Eater are given. Though fillers are indistinguishable, other highlights include the wild stomping Caveman Beat, the furious re-recording of Stressor holdover Asteroid Rock, the catchy Squarehead, future dance floor filling instrumental Out-Of-Space Theme and the wild boppin' Tastes Like a Martian. Strong buy for anyone who is into traditional Psychobilly sounds and wild Neo-Rockabilly craziness. |

The album received Social Distortion's highest ever chart position, entering the Billboard 200 album chart at #27.
