| Bopcats - Original Live Tämä "Original Live" on jatkumoa vuonna 2007 ilmestyneelle "Original"-paketille, joka oli kooste kissojen ennenjulkaisemattomia studio- ja treenikämppänauhoituksia vuosilta 1980-1991. Tällä kädessäsi olevalla "Original Live"-paketilla (LP+CD) kuullaan ennenjulkaisemattomia keikka-äänityksiä samoilta vuosilta höystettynä parilla bonus-raidalla treenikämpiltä, sekä LP:llä muutamat julkaisemattomat studioäänitykset vuodelta 1982. Aikaisemman Original-julkaisun tapaan formaateilla on osittain eri biisit. The BopCats on vuodesta 1979 soitellut yhtye, joka pysyy elävänä ja kuosissa, sekä pöyhii tuuheaa turkkiaan alinomaa, eikä vähiten erityisesti Suomessa elinvoimaisesti toimivan Rockabilly-kulttuurin ansiosta. Alkuperäisestä kokoonpanosta, Make Lemola, Hara Pöyhiä, Taape Pöntinen, Utsi Uusitalo ja Mico Jansson, on miehistöt jonkun verran matkan varrella muuttuneet ja vaihdoksia on ollut eniten basisti-osastolla. Tämän päivän kokoonpanossa on alkuperäisistä mukana enää Utsi, mutta Mico häärii edelleen taustalla lähinnä taiteellista silmää vaativissa projekteissa, kuten esimerkiksi tämän levyn kansitaiteilijana. Rumpali Ari Eerola aloitti yhtyeessä vuonna 1982, ja soittaa edelleen tänäpäivänäkin bändissä, joten voidaan puhua jo (lähes) alkuperäisjäsenestä. Basistina Haran jälkeen oli jonkin aikaa Timo Pohjalainen ja vuodet 2001-2010 läskibassoa kuritti Don Carlos. Syyskuussa 2010 liittyi bändiin bassonsa kanssa monissa liemissä lillunut Aki Savolainen. With a propulsive rhythm, an ominous minor key, wickedly good instrumental solos and the familiar character of the Devil up to his old tricks, opening track "Trouble Train" sets the mood for the whole album (with echoes of that other great song about Lucifer, Charlie Daniels' "Devil Went Down to Georgia"). Throughout the rest of the album, thugs prowl the street, young couples dance the night away in New York, hearts are broken, and lives are taken, all over pitch-perfect melodies and arrangements. Comprising ten vocal tracks and three instrumentals, 'Songs from Lonely Avenue' marks the first time Setzer has written every track on an album. With all the scope of a Raymond Chandler novel or an Orson Welles film, it's his most ambitious project to date. And as he did on 2007's 'Wolfgang's Big Night Out,' Setzer recruited 87-year-old Frank Comstock, one of the most important and inventive arrangers of instrumental music of the last century, to score the horn arrangements. Comstock wrote music for many of the era's top artists, including Doris Day, Sonny Dunham, Benny Carter and Judy Garland (not to mention the "Rocky & Bullwinkle" theme!). Furthermore, the "New King Of Jingle Bell Rock" (Billboard) Brian Setzer and his 18-piece big band will kick off their seventh Christmas Extravaganza 27-date tour on November 20th in Detroit. From launching the rockabilly revolution with the Stray Cats to pioneering the swing revival with the Brian Setzer Orchestra, this Long Island-born innovator has earned his unique place in modern music by walking the line between conceptual discipline and balls-out rockin'. Setzer won three Grammy Awards (two for Best Pop Instrumental Performance for "Sleepwalk" from The Dirty Boogie in 1998 and "Caravan" from VaVoom in 2000, plus one for Best Pop Performance with "Jump, Jive an' Wail," also from The Dirty Boogie) by targeting that place where wild energy and visionary imagination intersect. |

You'd expect any self-respecting young North London band that boasts an average age of 16 to spend an inordinate amount of time filling their i-phones with remixes downloaded from blogs, rather than cutting their tunes onto 78s. But then brother-and-two-sisters rock & roll enthusiasts Kitty Daisy & Lewis are no ordinary band. The three siblings – now aged 15, 18 and 17 - first came together onstage at a country and rockabilly jam in a North London pub. Five years later the 50s music, fashion and technology obsessed family have built a massive word of mouth audience through a stream of rapturously received gigs and festival appearances and are ready to release their first long player on Rob da Bank's Sunday Best label. Multi-instrumentalists Kitty Daisy & Lewis play guitar, piano, banjo, lap steel guitar, harmonica, double bass, ukulele, trombone and accordion between them. The album was recorded in glorious, utterly digital-free analogue by Lewis and his father Graeme in their home studio in Kentish Town. A stickler for living and breathing the music they play and talk so passionately about, Lewis DJs, collects and even cuts his own 78rpm records himself when he isn't recording with his sisters. This obsessive passion for the vintage music that inspires their performances led to their compilation ‘A to Z - Kitty, Daisy & Lewis - The Roots Of Rock n Roll’ being named Guardian's 2007 'Albums Of The Year – 5/5'. No dry exercise in musical Luddism, their debut album swings with the passion, intensity and sheer exuberant joie de vivre that makes their live shows one of the UK gig circuits greatest and most innocent pleasures. Recorded between school and college duties the album is a mixture of the covers their dad used to sing to them when they were children, together with new material like the heart torn 'Buggin' Blues', written by Lewis and inspired by the great late Otis Spann (Chess Records).
