Formed in 1980, THE BLUE CATS released their seminal FIGHT BACK album and single
WILD NIGHT in 1981. Their fusion of rockabilly and new wave was, and still is the
prime example of what became known as neo‐rockabilly.

In the mid 1980’s they started working on the G-MEN project and songs that would
form the basis of the next stage on their journey, BELTANE FIRE. After a hugely
successful year on the alternative London club Circuit, they signed to Sony Music in
late 1984 and in 1985 recorded album DIFFERENT BREED.

In 1992 they recorded again as THE BLUE CATS, and the result was the critically
acclaimed album THE TUNNEL. They then spent another year on the road together but in
1993 decided to go their separate ways to pursue individual projects.

Early in 2011 Steve Whitehouse was recruited on double bass and the band hit the
road again for an extremely successful run of European dates. The huge success of
THE BLUE CATS 3rd period is now to be celebrated with a new release on Bluelight
Records. Over the last two years or so, the band has been writing together again and
now believes they have a collection of the best songs they have ever worked on
together. The first single BILLY RUFFIANS pulled from the forthcoming album will be released on September 7th.

Charlie Feathers - Nobody's Darlin' But Mine EP
A true Record Store Day treat for all fans of original Memphis rock’n’roll comes in the shape of this EP featuring previously unknown recordings and alternate versions of four songs by one of the all-time greats of rockabilly – Charlie Feathers.

Cut in late 1961 for Memphis producer (and his former Sun colleague) Quinton Claunch, we found them some years ago when Ace bought Claunch’s Goldwax label. Problems with the tape, now resolved, prevented their release until now. Two of these songs have never been previously issued in the form that we present them here and one, ‘The Side Wind’ has never been issued at all.

Only Charlie’s unique version of ‘Deep Elm Blues’ has been out on a single before – but not from the original master tapes until now.

A highly limited edition and, as they say – when it’s gone, it’s gone.

Cramps - File Under Sacred Music: Early Singles 1978-1981
10 x 7" Vinyl Singles + a stamped envelope with memorabilia.

Very well done compilations of The Cramps early singles. Plus some tracks from the same period that were never issued on the single format. The vinyl box-set contains six repro sleeves and four new sleeves designed for this box-set.

The Cramps were record collectors before they were a band. When Erick Purkhiser and Kristy Wallace met in 1972, they discovered they were both into the same kind of thing: the music of 15 years or so earlier that had been all about kitsch and shock and sleaze, with shitty sonics and snarling, hiccuping singers, and hilarious over-the-top bravado. In the early 1970s, being into "50s rock'n'roll" meant American Graffiti and Sha Na Na and "Happy Days". Wallace and Purkhiser preferred the nasty also-rans-- the records that actually tried to be the threat to society that people sometimes pretended pop music could be.

It wasn't much of a leap to starting their own band in the same mode. Purkhiser reinvented himself as Lux Interior, the slavering, writhing, nearly naked, ectomorphic frontman of the Cramps, and Wallace was Poison Ivy Rorschach, a "bad girl" in leather and wigs and velvet who tore off one ichor-dripping 12-bar guitar riff after another. They didn't have a whole lot in common with their early punk scenemates other than big guitar noise, but punk rock gave them license to do sleazy, shocking, sopping wet rock'n'roll without having to bother with the usual thin veneer of respectability.

The Cramps were an institution for over 30 years, until Lux's death in 2009. They were one of the few punk-era bands who were well served by aging, since they were trying to come off like creepy, depraved old people in the first place. But they were always a better singles band than an album band, and a way better live act than a singles band. Most of the songs that made their reputation are collected on this suitably trashy set. The vinyl version of File Under Sacred Music is, appropriately, a "collectible" box of the band's first 10 singles in replica sleeves--or rather, it would be except that four of them were never actually issued as singles at the time. (The Cramps always did snicker at anything that claimed to be authentic.)

That's probably the ideal way to hear this material: Lux, Ivy, and their ever-rotating associates made the kind of strong, silly records that are best in hot-sauce doses of between three and six minutes. They occasionally came up with fabulously personal-space-invading originals like "Human Fly" and "New Kind of Kick", the latter of which features two lines that explain their raison d'être: "Life is short/ Filled with stuff" and "I learned all I know by the age of nine." The better part of File Under Sacred Music, though, is the crate-digging covers that were their calling card.

Their first single (produced, like a lot of their early material, by Alex Chilton) was a cover of one of the most familiar trash-rock staples, "Surfin' Bird", extended to five minutes with a sloppy gnarl of guitar and drum noise. They subsequently shied away from anything that familiar. Instead, they turned their attention to obscurities whose quirks they exaggerated to the point of perversion. Jack Scott's "The Way I Walk" was slowed down to a psychotic limp, with Lux hyperventilating every line and Ivy screaming bloody murder in the background; Ronnie Cook & the Gaylads' nutty novelty "Goo Goo Muck" turned into a hilariously lascivious threat on which Lux shrieked, trilled, gurgled, and enunciated the title like it referred to whatever bodily fluids your parents feared most.

The title of File Under Sacred Music is a joke about the dusty record stores the Cramps loved, as well as about their own discography: Songs the Lord Taught Us was the title of their first album, Songs the Cramps Taught Us the name of one of the many series of bootlegs of the original songs they covered. But the amazing, out-of-control music they saved from oblivion could show them up, at least on record. To hear the Novas' feral pro-wrestling novelty "The Crusher" ("Do the hammerlock, ya turkeynecks!") next to the Cramps' cover is to understand the difference between lunatics who've somehow ended up with a mic in front of them and record collectors doing a solid, deliberate impression of lunatics.

"Flew into Memphis 'cause I knew the time was right. I had to make this record, it was in me and had to come out. Damn, there I was with the mighty Bo-Keys, white boys and soul brothers getting together to have a good time and make music. Went to Chicago and added pedal steel from Joel Paterson and the sweet voice of Miss Kelly Hogan to seal the deal. This record is dedicated to Charles "Skip" Pitts, who died not long after this record was made. There are the last tow songs he ever recorded." - Deke Dickerson

Huelyn Duvall with Mike Bell And The Belltones - Baby, Make A Move EP
Loistava 7" vinyyli EP. ROCKABILLY !! Huelyn Duvall päätyi Mr Breathlessin studioon Helsingin Pitäjänmäelle helmikuussa 2011. Tulos on kuultavissa viimeistään kesäkuussa. Neljä biisiä rockabillyä.

release date June 2nd, 2011 - Send Your advance order now !

Huelyn Duvall is a bona fide Texas Rockabilly legend. He was in the
centre of that rocking hillbilly storm that ravaged America in the mid
50s, gigging alongside the biggest names in rock'n'roll. Impossibly
handsome, Duvall had a savage way with a guitar and a bopping tune that quickly gained him national attention. His hard hitting waxings for Challenge (Three Months to Kill), Starfire (It's No Wonder) and other
labels are desirable collector items today. The continuing release of
unissued masters from his recording sessions with Danny Wolfe and Tooter Boatman's Chapparals have only served to enhance his glowing reputation amongst Rocking diehards.

A lesser performer would be happy to rest on their laurels and trade on past glories. But this Texas Rockabilly Legend is made of sterner stuff.
Huelyn has continued to release top-quality rockers throughout his
career, and remains in constant demand to headline at the biggest
Rockabilly music festivals around the world. Duvall is held in such high esteem among his fellow musicians that the most talented young players from the Rocking scene are proud to play alongside him. For this outstanding EP he is joined by Finland's hottest new combo, Mike Bell And Thehe Belltones. Mike, Kali, Iikku and Japi have been tearing it up at the major weekenders, and to see them joining forces with Huelyn on Goofin' Records is a musical match made in heaven.

This record is sure to have DJs and record hops filling honky tonk
hardwood floors everywhere. From the infectious foot-tapper Little Bit
of Lovin', via stomping Stina Lee to the KILLER bopper Baby Make a Move - here is a slab of vinyl that will FORCE you to dance!

James Carr - In Muscle Shoals EP
Lots of you in Right Track Land seem to like the Kent EPs that we’ve been putting out in the last couple of years, and we can promise you that there’ll be several more in the coming months. Many will be comprised of music recorded in the American South, a part of the world close to the Kent A&R staff’s hearts for any number of reasons beyond the obvious quality of the music that sprung from there. Lovers of southern soul will be well pleased with these, particularly as a number of them will contain music that they have never heard before…

In the wake of ‘The Stars Of Goldwax’ and ‘The Stars Of Fame’ it’s great to be able to end the year with an EP containing four songs by a man who recorded for one of those labels and, on occasion, at the studios of the other. ‘James Carr In Muscle Shoals’ brings together the three tracks from James’ 1968 session at the Shoals area’s Quinvy Studios, and complements it with one from an early 1969 session at FAME. While all of the tracks have been released before, two are hitherto unreleased on vinyl and the other two have been mixed into first-time stereo, from the original 4 track multis, expressly for this project.

The contents of the EP offer a well rounded demonstration of James Augustus Carr’s abundant vocal capabilities. Deep soul, country soul, funky soul – James could do the lot and do it all well, even if it’s the deeper side of his catalogue that has predominantly earned him his enduring reputation with collectors and fans the world over.

All four selections included here offer five star performances, but Southern Soul seldom gets better than it does on our lead track, ‘That’s The Way Life Turned Out For Me’, a truly intense performance that sets the tone for what follows in its wake (and the version of ‘Life Turned Her That Way’ that does follow it, is different to the one that previously graced 50% of a Goldwax 45). Fans of the up-tempo side of James will be pleased to have his take on the Young Rascals’ ‘Love Is A Beautiful Thing’ on vinyl at long last, while collectors of versions of George Jackson’s terrific song ‘Search Your Heart’ will be just as delighted to own James’ cut on vinyl for the first time.

As well as the great music on offer, our cover features – as a bonus - a very rare photo of James that has only appeared once before in any Ace/Kent project. Packaged in a style that complements our previous and future Extended Play releases, and available only as a limited edition of 1000 copies (when they’re gone, they’re gone…) this is sure to be snapped up swiftly on its way to becoming a future collectors’ item…

…Next up in this ‘series’? Well, you’ll just have to wait and see what that is, but I can promise you already that you’ll like it!

Los Straitjackets are the world's leading practitioners of the guitar instrumental. Taking their cue from the style of The Ventures, The Shadows, Dick Dale and Link Wray, the band has pushed the style into the 21st century with their memorable live performances, albums and TV appearances, all the while clad in their trademark Lucha Libre masks. On this vinyl release, Los Straitjackets cover two iconic songs from the Me Decade. On Side A they take The James Gang's funky riff rock to Surfsville, and Side B is a soulful Duane Eddy-styled version of the Tony Joe White song (as made famous by Brook Benton).
