Mystery Train - Enjoy This Boogie NYT SAATAVANA !! Kesällä 2010 bändin "Keep Up the Beat" -biisi "ENJOY THIS BOOGIE!" -albumilta tullaan kuulemaan amerikkalaisen kokoillan elokuvan "DEUCE OF SPADES" avausraitana. "DEUCE OF SPADES" on herättänyt runsaasti huomiota ympäri maailmaa jo ennen ilmestymistään ja siitä povataankin hot rod -teemansa takia uutta American Graffitti:a! MYSTERY TRAIN:in kiertueaikatauluun, historiaan ja aiempiin julkaisuihin voit tutustua bändin MySpace-sivuilla.

Paul Gayten - Ain't Nothin' Happenin' 30 track (77:51) multi label collection 1947-57. The unsung Crescent City bandleader Paul Gayten made the first New Orleans R&B recordings of the post war era and had the first local hit there in 1947. As a producer, he was responsible for grooming hit singers such as Annie Laurie, Larry Darnell, Chubby Newsome, Bobby Charles und Clarence 'Frogman' Henry and became an important individual in the Chess empire before forming his own label in the late 1960s. This thirty-track compilation traces the first half of his high-voltage career in the recording business and proves how necessary he was to the birth and development of New Orleans R&B and rock'n'roll.

Paul Heaton - Acid Country The warm, mellifluous voice of Paul Heaton often masks the jagged satirical content of his lyrics. From pointed political jabs like “The People Who Grinned Themselves to Death” to darkly comical love stories such as “Something That You Said,” Heaton′s work with the Housemartins and the Beautiful South has had countless listeners obliviously humming along to his biting wit. In the ′80s, Heaton was the leader of the Housemartins. Like the Smiths, the Housemartins were college radio all-stars in the U.S.; although the group′s jangly riffs and brainy, humorous songs couldn′t draw mainstream acceptance in America, the band shared a portion of the Smiths′ sizable cult of devotees. In 1986, the video for the Housemartins′ “Happy Hour” was selected as a Hip Clip of the Week on MTV; the rollicking single is still a favorite of′80s flashback shows on modern rock stations. After the Housemartins disbanded in the late ′80s, Heaton then fronted the Beautiful South, a group that mirrored the Housemartins′ no-frills approach. Nevertheless, the Beautiful South expanded Heaton′s musical canvas, exploring jazz and even country influences. While many critics and student-run radio stations in the U.S. continued to laud Heaton′s talent, the Beautiful South became far more successful in England, where they charted several number one albums. The group called it quits in 2007 and Heaton shifted his focus to his solo career. Although Paul′s first solo release was back in 2001 [albeit under the pseudonym Biscuit Boy], it wasn′t until 2008, with the release of The Cross Eyed Rambler, that Heaton started putting out records under his own name. Paul is currently finishing off his third solo album proper and training hard for his ambitious Pedals and Pumps tour, a cycling tour of 16 traditional English pubs in 20 days supporting the greenest form of transport whilst fighting the pub closures. This tour is now expected to cover over 900 miles. Summer will see the release of the new solo album and Paul appear at several of the country′s festivals.

Pete Gage - Tough Talk A STUNNING NEW ALBUM BY PETE GAGE - "TOUGH TALK" IS OUT NOW! ALSO FEATURES LEGENDARY GYPIE MAY0 ON GUITAR! Pete Gage, who was born in Paddington London in February 1946, is a multitalented and charismatic artist. He has a stunning, deep and rich voice, and he's also a very capable piano and harmonica player. Here we have a real bluesman, whose interpretations are always full of feeling and are coming straight from the heart and guts. His music chorea started already in the mid 60's. Semi-legendary band called The Sloane Squares had already earned a cult status with their raging live shows, when ex-Shadows bass player Jet Harris hired them as his band. A single by Jet Harris, "My lady" was released in 1967, and features Pete Gage on vocals. Many will remember Pete from the 90's, when he was a frontman for Dr Feelgood for five years, and was taking care of vocal duties for example on their "On the road again" -album. A couple of solo-albums has been released too, "Give it with a feeling" in 1994, and piano-blues-album "Out of hours" in 1997. The latter was recorded in Finland, and released by finnish record company Goofin' Records, and got a very good reviews all over the world. Last couple of years Pete Gage has taken it easy in his native region in Frome England, but still all the time has toured with different line-ups, doing all kinds of gigs, from small clubs to a big blues-festivals. Mainly in England, but also in other countries like Spain and Finland. In Finland he has always had a large and loyal fan base, and is a very much loved and wanted performer especially in all kind of blues happenings and festivals. Recording wise things are also happening at the moment. Pete has recorded a brand new album "Tough Talk" (GRCD 6165) at Juha Takanen's famous Äänistudio in Finland. It has now been released by famous finnish rootsmusic label Goofin' Records. On the album Pete is taking care of all vocal duties, he also plays piano throughout the album, and adds some tasty harmonica on a couple of tracks. Most of songs are new ones written by artist himself. There's twelve original songs along with three covers, one of them being the old favorite "Standing at the crossroads" written by Mickey Jupp, which is given the all time rockin' treatment. The style is bluesy and very rootsy; blues, rhythm & blues and rock'n'roll are having an important role all through the record, and also some hints of cajun, country and jazz are there to spice up the whole thing. "Tough Talk" features a bunch of best players from the finnish roots scene. Also a legendary english guitarist Gypie Mayo (ex-Dr Feelgood, ex-Yardbirds) is playing on six tracks.

Peter Sellers And Sophia Loren - Peter And Sophia Peter Sellers' comic genius is undeniable. His work influenced everyone from the Beatles to Peter Cook to Monty Python. Amid such memorable Amid such memorable screen roles as his buffoonish Communist shop steward, Fred Kite in I’m All Right Jack, his perverted Clare Quilty in Lolita, his Tatiesque Hurundi V Bakshi in The Party, his famously hapless Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther, the three vivid characters he played in Stanley Kubrick’s Dr.Strangelove and the vacant Chauncey Gardiner in Being There, reside some of the greatest comic performances in cinema history. In 1960, Peter Sellers co-starred with Sophia Loren in The Millionairess. At the same time, Peter and Sophia teamed with George Martin (who would soon and throughout the sixties become the Beatles exclusive producer) to record a song inspired by the theme of the film entitled, Goodness Gracious Me. Goodness Gracious Me was released as a single and with the nation behind it, roared to the top of the charts. The album Peter and Sophia immediately followed it up the hit parade, as did the memorable follow up, Bangers and Mash. Our edition comprises, all of the Peter and Sophia recordings. A selection of Sellers songs also produced by George Martin and songs and music from such Sellers hits as I'm All Right Jack, Two Way Stretch, The Ladykillers and Sophia Loren’s It Started In Naples.

| Rationals - Fan Club Album For fans of the shiny black stuff, Big Beat is proud to present two different LPs by Ann Arbor’s finest, the Rationals this month. Last year’s “Think Rational!” compilation, the first legitimate repackaging of this storied combo’s mid-60s sides for the legendary A-Square label, was very warmly received indeed. The group’s distinctive brand of garage soul, so long the pride of their native Michigan, finally got the “respect” (pun intended) it deserves. And so, for the aficionados we offer these two extra special vinyl editions. The “Fan Club Album” is legendary in collector circles as one of the rarest 60s garage artefacts known to man – only three test pressing copies are confirmed to exist. Consisting of unreleased outtakes from the band’s earliest sessions in 1965 and 1966, the longplayer was intended as a farewell “thank you” to the groups loyal fanbase by the band’s producer and mentor Jeep Holland, when he parted ways with the Rationals in late 1968. Save for one cut, this reissue reprises the album’s original tracklist and running order, and comes with a new, fully illustrated sleeve. In fact two tracks (the instrumentals ‘Wayfaring Stranger’ and ‘Strawberry Jam’) and several of the versions do not appear on “Think Rational!” and are thus exclusive to this release. At the height of their popularity, there was much consideration of a Rationals album. Jeep even gave the project a title – “A-Soulin’ We Go With The Rationals”. Though the band recorded several of the selections Jeep had mapped out for inclusion, the record never came to fruition. But our “Out On The Floor” compilation approximates its contents, by collecting together the best material from the Rationals’ mid-60s garage-soul heyday, including such signature tunes as ‘Leavin’ Here’, ‘Temptation’s ‘Bout To Get Me’ and their big regional hit, ‘I Need You’. Mostly recorded at sessions in 1967 and 1968, when the beloved Michigan quartet was at the top of its game, it’s both a groovy spin for the hardcore Rats fan, and a power packed introduction for those who have yet to discover the blue-eyed magic of the mighty RATIONALS. | Rave-Ups - The Book Of Your Regrets / Chance American Beat imprint has been on a crusade to resurrect under-appreciated American roots-rock and power pop bands from out-of-print limbo, and this time we're bringing you both varieties rolled up into one band, The Rave-Ups! Led by frontman/lyricist Jimmer Podrasky, this Pittsburgh quartet fused the big ringing chords of power pop with the working-class concerns of roots-rock, and put enough classic rock references (Dylan, Hollies, Beatles, Turtles) into their songs to keep college radio record geeks happy. Despite periodic reunions, these 1988 and 1990 albums remain the last we've heard from the Rave-Ups; they ‘re some of the best recordings of their kind and era, timeless, classic rock ‘n' roll. |

Remo Four - Smile, Peter Gunn... And More (1-CD Digipak, four panel, with booklet. 17 tracks). -- One of the greatest Star-Club groups! Managed by Brian Epstein and later backed George Harrison on his 'Wonderwall Music' album ! Includes two top musicians of the UK Pop History, Tony Ashton and Colin Manley! British R&B par excellence. A sought after collectors' item! Rare bonus titles! -- Many Star-Club bands were audience favourites without becoming as big as the Beatles, who also started there. But there was one group that towered above their competitors for their outstanding musical quality, and it was another band from Liverpool, The Remo Four. In the early and mid-sixties the Remo Four became backing musicians for solo singers - and were among the best bands to ever touch the hallowed stage of the legendary Hamburg club. By 1967, they were among the best bands from England. - Charismatic singer/organ player Tony Ashton (1944-2001) and guitarist Colin Manley (1942-1999) were brilliant instrumentalists, and their solos were solidly backed by the band's rhythm section: ace drummer Roy Dyke and bass-player Phil Rogers. The Remo Four were the first among equals with an excellent fusion of rhythm, blues, brass-free soul and even gospel snippets - with Tony proving how such a mixture could be sung perfectly and soulfully alike. - Songs such as Sing Hallelujah, Brother Where Are You, the fantastic Jive Samba, to name but a few, are excellent examples of the quartet's outstanding groove. Their greatest success had come in 1966 with the Peter Gunn instrumental, which made them stars in Germany after a legendary live performance on the famous 'Beat-Club' TV show. - These days The Remo Four's only album 'Smile!' is insanely rare and expensive as an original, but even the CD edition - off the market for many years - has become a sought-after rarity. Now this outstanding slice of mid-Sixties music is available again with eight extra songs (A&B sides of two singles plus four tracks unreleased at the time). With this fabulous release, Bear Family finally fills in a missing link in the musical story of the 'Swinging Sixties'.

Roky Erickson with Okkervil River - True Love Cast Out All Evil Chemikal Underground offers the inestimable Mr Roky Erickson a fond, Glaswegian embrace: thrilled to be working with a bona fide living legend, we're honoured to have The 13th Floor Elevators' frontman allow us to release his first album in 15 years. That the album 'True Love Cast Out All Evil' also features Okkervil River on production and backing duties just makes the whole enterprise all the sweeter... Roky Erickson's life and career is the stuff of darkly fantastic fiction: while his early teenage success with The 13th Floor Elevators pioneered psychedelic garage rock and ensured him a place at the table with rock's most influential artists, the thirty years that followed were a grotesque cavalcade of bankruptcy, drug addiction, mental illness, electro-shock therapy, deteriorating health and social withdrawal. That Roky has endured these hardships is a thing of wonder; that he has managed to not only endure but triumph, re-marrying his wife of 35 years (who now shares their home in South Austin), forging a relationship with his previously estranged son (who was instrumental in Roky's recovery) and ultimately returning to the studio to make music again is nothing short of miraculous. The roll call of bands influenced by Roky's music is simply too long to list here: from REM to Spacemen 3, The Jesus And Mary Chain to Julian Cope, ZZ Top to Primal Scream - all of them and more owe a debt to the scuzzed-up garage rock of Erickson and The 13th Floor Elevators. All the more exciting then, to have him return to the studio, this time with Will Sheff from Okkervil River producing and his band provide an impeccably sensitive backdrop for Roky's heart-rending vocals. The result, 'True Love Cast Out All Evil', is a profoundly moving and honest potrayal of a life, once blighted by addiction, incarceration and mental illness, but now rediscovered through the patient help and support of family and friends. Not ones to be overly sycophantic with such things we at Chemikal have to come right out and say that the themes of loss and redemption on this album, Roky's vocal performances and the jaw-dropping back-story to its creation make 'True Love Cast Out All Evil' one of our most significant releases and we couldn't be more proud to be involved.

Shirelles - Sings The Golden Oldies / Spontaneous Combustion All good things must come to an end. Thus it is with tears in our eyes and handkerchiefs in hand that, this month, we bring the curtain down on our series of pairings of the Shirelles’ original Scepter albums. We’d love it to have continued for longer but, unfortunately for us all, the girls just did not release enough long players to make that happen. If you’re looking for someone to blame for that, blame Florence Greenberg – Scepter was her label, not ours. Few big (or small) girl groups of the 1960s could have achieved the level of success that they did without the pioneering work of Shirley Alston, Micki Harris, Doris Coley and Beverly Lee. The conclusion of the series is with two very rare albums, neither of which has ever been on CD before. Just three years separated the original vinyl release dates of “Sing The Golden Oldies” and the (mostly) live set “Spontaneous Combustion” but both have been out of print for more than 40 years, so it’s a really special pleasure to be the first to welcome them to the digital age. Unlike the girls other albums, neither contains major hits – but equally unlike the others, both offer specific concepts. Both are among the most prized long players among Shirelles collectors the world over. As you might expect, “Golden Oldies” concentrates heavily (but not exclusively) on the doo wop classics that the teenage Shirley, Micki, Doris and Beverly would harmonise when school was out in their Passaic, NJ hometown in the late 50s. “Spontaneous Combustion”, meanwhile, captures significant moments from a live club date in early 1967 and features an altogether more adult group of ladies, laughing and clowning with their audience and singing up a storm as they always did. While the ‘fi’ is not always as ‘hi’ as it might be, live recordings of upper echelon R&B acts from the 60s are far from commonplace and “Spontaneous Combustion” is to be treasured on that basis. As ever, the music is backed up by a booklet that’s chock full of label shots and significant ephemera, and that boasts a sleeve note by Shirelles authority-and-friend Dennis Garvey. This CD is bringing the 2-On-1 series to a close, but we have grand finale in store that will delight every hard-core Shirelles fan. A very recent trawl of the Scepter vaults has yielded enough rare stereo mixes and completely unissued tracks (including many wonderful studio sides and the rest of the “Spontaneous Combustion” show) to put together a CD of almost entirely unheard material. This is scheduled for release in early 2011 – we’ll let you know what’s going to be on it, as soon as we are able to decide ourselves. By Tony Rounce (from Ace Records website)

Stone River Boys - Love On The Dial When the Hacienda Brothers released their third and final studio album titled Arizona Motel in 2008, guitarist Dave Gonzalez was left with the unfortunate task of promoting the new release without his partner Chris Gaffney who died unexpectedly from liver cancer. So Gonzalez put together an Austin Texas all-star band to hit some of The Hacienda Brothers favorite venues, and it was Gonzalez himself who took over the onstage vocal duties for all of Gaffney’s songs, nailing them with emotion and finesse night after night. Gonzalez’s outstanding performances are no surprise to those who followed The Paladins, where Gonzalez did the bulk of the singing for over 20 years. Dave Gonzalez was also the Hacienda Brother’s primary songwriter and powerhouse guitarist who in 2007 was named one of Guitar Player Magazine’s “Top 101 Unsung Guitar Heroes.” Gonzalez had recently helped develop a new prototype Baritone Guitar for Fender. With this guitar he is a pioneer of sorts, exploring new dimensions in guitar tones that only a baritone can produce. The sound is part Duane Eddy, classic honkytonk, and spaghetti westerns. As Dave explains “unexpectedly it also sounds absolutely great on the soul stuff.” This year Spin Magazine selected the Hacienda Brothers at one of the “100 Greatest Bands You’ve (probably) Never Heard.” Gonzalez says, “This is a consolation prize for all the hard work the Hacienda Brothers put into the project and if Gaff had pulled through than maybe we could have shook the "Probably Never Heard Of" part of their 100 Greatest list.” The wild card in Gonzalez’s Austin All-star band was vocalist Mike Barfield. While some people might have mistakenly looked at Barfield as an attempt to replace Gaffney, the fact and the results couldn’t be further from that: Barfield proved to be just the breath of fresh air the shows needed to keep them fun-loving and spontaneous. Barfield is a singer that Gaffney respected and enjoyed. Barfield has fronted his own band, The Hollisters, and spent the last few years creating his own brand of country-soul, recently releasing two CDs of largely original material. The most recent, The Tyrant (Tater Tot Recordings) takes its name from Barfield’s nickname as The Tyrant of Texas Funk. The CD features a slew of fun, soulful, funky and sometimes irreverent songs like “Funky Cupcake” and “The Struggle.” When Barfield breaks into his screaming whoops and animated country-soul dance you’ll want to join the infectious good time. Gaffney would have loved this pairing. In 2009 the Stone River Boys made a big splash performing at SXSW and the Americana Music Conference. Out of their showcases came a record deal with Cow Island Music out of Massachusetts. For every end there is a new beginning and in this case for Dave Gonzalez and Mike Barfield, it’s The Stone River Boys
