Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel - Two Teenagers - The Singles 1957-1961 There have been many collections of these pre Simon & Garfunkel releases but this is the first chronological compilation to feature all of their commercially released singles between 1957 and 1961. Includes tracks originally recorded as Tom & Jerry, Jerry Landis, Artie Garr and Tico & The Triumphs plus rare solo singles from both Art and Paul. The music on this disc is a far cry from the music that Simon and Garfunkel produced over the last forty years yet all of it captures the American pop music world in the years just before the pop British Invasion better than any greatest hits collection of the era ever could. Fully detailed liner notes with biography and career achievements.

Peacocks - Don't Ask The first THE PEACOCKS show took place back in 1990. The band was Hasu on guitar, Adi on drums and Michi on double bass. The music was very rockabilly orientated poppy psychobilly with lots of cover songs. After playing a few birthday parties THE PEACOCKS broke up because Michi left the band, but one year later THE PEACOCKS restarted again as a three piece completed by Simon, Hasu's brother, who learned the double bass. This constellation lasted out for five years while they recorded three seven inches on their own, that have been sold out now for ages. Afterwards it was time for THE PEACOCKS to record their first regular album called "Come With Us" in 1995. Right before the first US/Canada tour, Adi decided to leave the band. The tour only could happen because the third Langhardt brother David knew all THE PEACOCKS songs so far, and jumped in as drummer. The tour was quite successful and a new drummer called Toni joined the band after they returned to Switzerland. Around 1997 THE PEACOCKS started to tour almost everywhere in the world, including Japan, the U.S., Canada and every European country. THE PEACOCKS recorded two more albums "In without knocking"(1998) and "Angel"(2001). Both records did alright and with "Angel", the band signed to Asian Man Records. Early in 2002 Toni had to leave the band because he couldn't tour anymore. With 3 kids he decided it's better to have a proper job. It took quite a long time for THE PEACOCKS to find a new drummer, but at the end of 2002 Jürg joined THE PEACOCKS and the band started again rockin'. In 2004 THE PEACOCKS released "It’s time for...The Peacocks" on five different record labels in five different countries and also three different continents. THE PEACOCKS toured again in almost every country in Europe, heading also successfully back to Canada and Japan. In 2006 Hairball 8 records did a best-of release for the U.S. market, followed by huge tour through 14 states. The band decided to stay in the US after the tour to record a new album at Sonic Iguana in Lafayette Indiana. Next important step in the bands history was the signing to “PEOPLE LIKE YOU RECORDS” in 2007, they released their label debut “Touch And Go” right away followed by a lot of touring through Europe in their old van. The “Touch And Go” sessions left a lot of material which was decided to put out as a ten inch called “The Best Of The Rest And The Left Overs” in 2008. Two years were needed, filled with a lot of amazing shows in the whole world, after THE PEACOCKS decided to head back in the studio to record a brand new record. After a couple of months “After All” was finished, it was released in March 2010 on PEOPLE LIKE YOU RECORDS. In September 2010 “After All” will hit the U.S. stores in cooperation again with PEOPLE LIKE YOU RECORDS THE PEACOCKS are now around for nearly 20 years. And they will stay forever. They’re cool and they look smart. But the most important thing is that they love what they do and are still hungry to play live! If you can’t believe this, convince yourself by visiting one of their amazing rockin’ live shows. Their genius mixture of punk, rockabilly and psychobilly garnished with cool beats and a pinch of pop, will keep you dancing all night long.

Pete Gage - Tough Talk A STUNNING NEW ALBUM BY PETE GAGE - "TOUGH TALK" IS OUT NOW! ALSO FEATURES LEGENDARY GYPIE MAY0 ON GUITAR! Pete Gage, who was born in Paddington London in February 1946, is a multitalented and charismatic artist. He has a stunning, deep and rich voice, and he's also a very capable piano and harmonica player. Here we have a real bluesman, whose interpretations are always full of feeling and are coming straight from the heart and guts. His music chorea started already in the mid 60's. Semi-legendary band called The Sloane Squares had already earned a cult status with their raging live shows, when ex-Shadows bass player Jet Harris hired them as his band. A single by Jet Harris, "My lady" was released in 1967, and features Pete Gage on vocals. Many will remember Pete from the 90's, when he was a frontman for Dr Feelgood for five years, and was taking care of vocal duties for example on their "On the road again" -album. A couple of solo-albums has been released too, "Give it with a feeling" in 1994, and piano-blues-album "Out of hours" in 1997. The latter was recorded in Finland, and released by finnish record company Goofin' Records, and got a very good reviews all over the world. Last couple of years Pete Gage has taken it easy in his native region in Frome England, but still all the time has toured with different line-ups, doing all kinds of gigs, from small clubs to a big blues-festivals. Mainly in England, but also in other countries like Spain and Finland. In Finland he has always had a large and loyal fan base, and is a very much loved and wanted performer especially in all kind of blues happenings and festivals. Recording wise things are also happening at the moment. Pete has recorded a brand new album "Tough Talk" (GRCD 6165) at Juha Takanen's famous Äänistudio in Finland. It has now been released by famous finnish rootsmusic label Goofin' Records. On the album Pete is taking care of all vocal duties, he also plays piano throughout the album, and adds some tasty harmonica on a couple of tracks. Most of songs are new ones written by artist himself. There's twelve original songs along with three covers, one of them being the old favorite "Standing at the crossroads" written by Mickey Jupp, which is given the all time rockin' treatment. The style is bluesy and very rootsy; blues, rhythm & blues and rock'n'roll are having an important role all through the record, and also some hints of cajun, country and jazz are there to spice up the whole thing. "Tough Talk" features a bunch of best players from the finnish roots scene. Also a legendary english guitarist Gypie Mayo (ex-Dr Feelgood, ex-Yardbirds) is playing on six tracks.

Peter Sellers And Sophia Loren - Peter And Sophia Peter Sellers' comic genius is undeniable. His work influenced everyone from the Beatles to Peter Cook to Monty Python. Amid such memorable Amid such memorable screen roles as his buffoonish Communist shop steward, Fred Kite in I’m All Right Jack, his perverted Clare Quilty in Lolita, his Tatiesque Hurundi V Bakshi in The Party, his famously hapless Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther, the three vivid characters he played in Stanley Kubrick’s Dr.Strangelove and the vacant Chauncey Gardiner in Being There, reside some of the greatest comic performances in cinema history. In 1960, Peter Sellers co-starred with Sophia Loren in The Millionairess. At the same time, Peter and Sophia teamed with George Martin (who would soon and throughout the sixties become the Beatles exclusive producer) to record a song inspired by the theme of the film entitled, Goodness Gracious Me. Goodness Gracious Me was released as a single and with the nation behind it, roared to the top of the charts. The album Peter and Sophia immediately followed it up the hit parade, as did the memorable follow up, Bangers and Mash. Our edition comprises, all of the Peter and Sophia recordings. A selection of Sellers songs also produced by George Martin and songs and music from such Sellers hits as I'm All Right Jack, Two Way Stretch, The Ladykillers and Sophia Loren’s It Started In Naples.

Priscilla Paris - Love, Priscilla “She was a conundrum.” The words of her older sister Albeth ring true, not just for Priscilla Paris’ life, but for her musical career. This beautiful, intelligent young woman, the voice that launched a thousand transistor radios with the dreamy ‘I Love How You Love Me’, was a study in contradiction. Forthright yet extremely private, seemingly sure of herself while quite hopelessly lost. Long before their chart visibility at the turn of the 1960s, the Paris Sisters had been trained to be professional entertainers for the best part of a decade, and Priscilla yearned to break free, to rebel. This she did in several different ways, but the most significant was with her creativity; a bold move in an era when female artists of her ilk were poppets to be dangled by the likes of a Phil Spector. Her background was as a performer, not a writer, but Priscilla was determined to say what she needed to say, in song. On “Love, Priscilla”, the first ever collection of her 1960s solo recordings, we hear both sides of Ms Paris. The consummate professional, whose phrasing and exceptional microphone technique was amongst the best in the business; and the earnest, searching singer-songwriter looking so very desperately for a way to convey what she felt inside. The paradox is particularly evident in her debut album from 1967, the enchanting “Priscilla Sings Herself”, where on the one hand, she spoke of ‘Wandering,’ yet openly declared ‘I’m Home’. Or reversed the cheerful sentiment of ‘I Can’t Complain’ with an urgent plea to ‘Help Me’. All these anomalies create the unseen tension that can so often transform straightforward good music into something very special indeed. An altogether more relaxed Priss is evident upon “Priscilla Loves Billie”, a classily arranged set of Billie Holliday covers released in 1969. Four recently discovered tracks from the same year feature on “Love, Priscilla”: one tune in particular, ‘Some Little Lovin’ Lie’, is amongst the best productions of her career. By that time, The Paris Sisters had split and Priscilla was on her own, but her solo career would never gain traction, and eventually she would move to Europe, passing tragically in her adopted home Paris in 2004. I’ve been a fan of the Paris Sisters for many years, but it wasn’t until the assembly of this compilation that I really began to understand, and fully appreciate, Priscilla’s artistry. Discussing Priss with her sisters Albeth and Sherrell, manager Clancy Grass, and arranger (and one-time paramour) Don Peake, a picture emerged of her as a true maverick; a one-of-a-kind talent who shone brightly when she chose to, but was never truly able to capitalize on her abilities, or the unique gift she had with a song. What remains however, in the work of the Paris Sisters, and the solo recordings collected on “Love Priscilla”, is a legacy that resonates deeply with anyone who hears it. No singer could ask for a more fitting tribute than that. By Alec Palao (Ace Records)

| Rationals - Fan Club Album For fans of the shiny black stuff, Big Beat is proud to present two different LPs by Ann Arbor’s finest, the Rationals this month. Last year’s “Think Rational!” compilation, the first legitimate repackaging of this storied combo’s mid-60s sides for the legendary A-Square label, was very warmly received indeed. The group’s distinctive brand of garage soul, so long the pride of their native Michigan, finally got the “respect” (pun intended) it deserves. And so, for the aficionados we offer these two extra special vinyl editions. The “Fan Club Album” is legendary in collector circles as one of the rarest 60s garage artefacts known to man – only three test pressing copies are confirmed to exist. Consisting of unreleased outtakes from the band’s earliest sessions in 1965 and 1966, the longplayer was intended as a farewell “thank you” to the groups loyal fanbase by the band’s producer and mentor Jeep Holland, when he parted ways with the Rationals in late 1968. Save for one cut, this reissue reprises the album’s original tracklist and running order, and comes with a new, fully illustrated sleeve. In fact two tracks (the instrumentals ‘Wayfaring Stranger’ and ‘Strawberry Jam’) and several of the versions do not appear on “Think Rational!” and are thus exclusive to this release. At the height of their popularity, there was much consideration of a Rationals album. Jeep even gave the project a title – “A-Soulin’ We Go With The Rationals”. Though the band recorded several of the selections Jeep had mapped out for inclusion, the record never came to fruition. But our “Out On The Floor” compilation approximates its contents, by collecting together the best material from the Rationals’ mid-60s garage-soul heyday, including such signature tunes as ‘Leavin’ Here’, ‘Temptation’s ‘Bout To Get Me’ and their big regional hit, ‘I Need You’. Mostly recorded at sessions in 1967 and 1968, when the beloved Michigan quartet was at the top of its game, it’s both a groovy spin for the hardcore Rats fan, and a power packed introduction for those who have yet to discover the blue-eyed magic of the mighty RATIONALS. | Rationals - Rationals Big Beat’s Rationals compilation “Think Rational” delivered some long overdue kudos to these seminal Michigan rockers. As promised we are proud to present the group’s 1970 album in the same well-annotated and lavishly illustrated manner; the first time these recordings have been reissued legitimately. At the time of the album’s release, Detroit rock was epitomised by the Grande Ballroom and the powerful sounds of the groups associated with it, such as the MC5, Stooges, SRC, Amboy Dukes and Frost. The Rationals were younger than the majority of the musicians in these groups, and they ploughed their own rock/R&B furrow, resisting the heavyweight arrangements deemed mandatory, and eschewing the fashionable hirsute image of the time for a neat, latter-day mod look. Not that the Rationals were unpopular at the “high energy” Grande – far from it. The group appeared as a regular, and no doubt refreshing, alternative to the bluster of many of their harder-edged contemporaries. Their classic 1969 single ‘Guitar Army’ became an anthem of sorts for Detroit rock, with its universal truth that seemed to have been submerged in the overheated revolutionary rhetoric of the time – that the music was the message. Having left their mentor Jeep Holland, of A-Square Records,in 1968, the Rationals cast around for a contract and a producer, eventually settling for a deal with Bob Crewe’s short-lived Crewe label. The result, this album, were as soulful as their earlier recordings but it demonstrated better the breadth of the group’s talents. Intricate, complex originals like ‘Ha Ha’ and ‘Deep Red’ nestled easily with tried and tested R&B chestnuts from their stage act and inspired covers like Dr John’s ‘Glowin’’ and Mike d’Abo’s soon-to-be-classic ‘Handbags And Gladrags’. All showcased the amazing pipes of vocalist Scott Morgan to great effect. Sadly, the Rationals’ long-overdue shot at recording a long-player did not translate into record sales and by the end of the year the group had split. They remain a cherished memory for their devoted hometown audience of Ann Arbor who had been by their side since they first emerged in 1965. Our reissue of “The Rationals” adds the rare single mixes of ‘Guitar Army’ and ‘Sunset’, along with two previously unissued tracks, including an amazing ten minute live-in-the-studio take of ‘Wang Dang Doodle’ that goes some way to explaining the roots of that devotion. The Rationals were truly one of the era’s finest. By Alec Palao (Ace Records) |

Rave-Ups - The Book Of Your Regrets / Chance American Beat imprint has been on a crusade to resurrect under-appreciated American roots-rock and power pop bands from out-of-print limbo, and this time we're bringing you both varieties rolled up into one band, The Rave-Ups! Led by frontman/lyricist Jimmer Podrasky, this Pittsburgh quartet fused the big ringing chords of power pop with the working-class concerns of roots-rock, and put enough classic rock references (Dylan, Hollies, Beatles, Turtles) into their songs to keep college radio record geeks happy. Despite periodic reunions, these 1988 and 1990 albums remain the last we've heard from the Rave-Ups; they ‘re some of the best recordings of their kind and era, timeless, classic rock ‘n' roll.

Ray Charles - Modern Sounds In Country And Western Music Vols 1 & 2 Merging the sounds of '50s R&B with the power of gospel vocals may have been conceived by some as the devils work, but as we all know, Ray forged quite the career out of it and became a pioneer and a major influence by devising a whole new form of black pop music. It is here though that we have both volumes of 'Modern Sounds in Country Music' with their wonderful, unique and groundbreaking fusion of jazz, R&B and C&W. The first volume topped the US LP charts for 14 weeks, selling an estimated two million copies, and span off two multi-million-selling singles: 'I Can't Stop Loving You'/'Born to Lose' and 'You Don't Own Me'/'Careless Love'. The second volume sold a million copies and yielded three further hits: 'You Are My Sunshine', 'Your Cheatin' Heart' and the million selling 'Take These Chains from My Heart'. Also included are two bonus tracks which include yet another million-seller in the form of 'Georgia on My Mind'. If you only ever bought one Ray Charles compilation, it would have to be this one!

Red Sovine - I'm The Man - A Starday Singles Anthology It’s probably fair to say that Red Sovine isn’t regarded as a country music superstar in the way his early career-boosters Hank Williams and Webb Pierce are, or that he is spoken of regularly in the same breath as his peers Buck Owens, Ray Price and George Jones. Yet Red’s solid baritone is the very essence of country music, and the majority of the 400-odd sides he recorded in his 21-year career back up that statement in an unqualified manner. When Red’s name is spoken, it’s usually with reference to his big hits ‘Teddy Bear’, ‘Giddy up Go’, ‘Phantom 309’ and several other emotional recitations he cut in the 60s and 70s for Starday Records. Although they were an undoubted boon to his career, they have tended to obscure the fact that he really was a great country singer, and as a vocalist on a par with any member of his peer group. This is Ace’s second dip into the huge stockpile of Red’s Starday masters, the first being “Honky Tonks, Truckers & Tears” CDCHD 1052. “I’m The Man” strives to address this by providing a cross-section of his work that concentrates on the singles he cut during his first lengthy tenure with the Nashville indie – which lasted from 1960 to 1971 with a couple of brief breaks. To keep it representative, we’ve included one recitation (‘I Think I Can Sleep Tonight’) and one truckin’ song (‘King Of the Open Road’), but the main focus is on the unadulterated, full-on country music Red recorded during this period. There are some great on-the-fours honky tonk shuffles to enjoy, including ‘I Hope My Wife Don’t Find Out’ and the fabulous Justin Tubb song ‘She Can’t Read My Writing’. Red’s late 60s revivals of the 40s hillbilly perennials ‘Blues Stay Away From Me’, ‘I’m Waiting Just For You’ and ‘I’ll Sail My Ship Alone’ are as terrific as you might expect from a man who’d probably been singing them his whole career. His early 60s covers of more contemporary songs stack up well against the originals by Charlie Rich (a sublime ‘Sittin’ And Thinkin’’) and George Jones (a whole raft of songs, including ‘Color Of The Blues’, ‘Accidentally On Purpose’ and ‘Why Baby Why’). On these and other songs here Red is backed by key Nashville A-list pickers including pianist Pig Robbins, bass man Junior Huskey and steel player supreme Pete Drake. You don’t get to work with that calibre of musician if you don’t match up vocally. There’s a third volume of Red’s Starday recordings in the pipeline, consisting exclusively of his versions of 60s country classics that became hits for his Grand Ole Opry colleagues. Meanwhile, it’s time to “pop a top” and immerse yourself in some of the best ever sides from a true giant of country music.

Reg Owen & His Orchestra - Obsession There aren't many CDs issued to drink coffee by but here you'll find music that was supposedly intended for you to do just that - and if you aren't satisfied after 12 tracks to go with your latte, cappuccino or espresso then a further 12 encourage you to cuddle up and relax - doubtless with a loved one. Also included are both sides of two of his most popular singles of which, 'Manhattan Spiritual' climbed rapidly up the American Billboard Charts to a very respectable No. 10. Virtually every song on this set is a well-known standard and listening to this compilation will remind you that when someone pens a great tune and then someone gives it an even greater orchestration, well you can sit back and enjoy it. So go on, put the kettle on, cuddle up and relax.
