| Johnny Horton - I'm A Fishin' Man DVD with 24-page booklet, b&w, NTSC, regional code: 0, 28 tracks, playing time approx. 71 mns. Never before seen performances by Johnny Horton. Rare recordings from collection of Jerry Hope. Ozark Jubilee Shows from the collection of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. A rare live concert. When Bear Family began work on the Johnny Horton LP box sets back in the mid-1980s, just two videos traded hands among collectors: a grainy copy of 'I'm A Fishin' Man' and an 'Ed Sullivan Show' appearance. Now we have an embarrassment of riches. Finally, we see why Horton was, as his contemporaries said, a natural television performer. Amiable, good-looking, and breezily confident, he was ideal for what was then the new medium of television. Just the kind of guy you'd want to bring into your living room. This DVD collects most of the known videotaped performances of Johnny Horton from very early in his career until just a few weeks before he was killed. There are 25 filmed performances and three bonus audio performances spanning the years from 1953 until 1960. He not only sings his biggest hits, 'North To Alaska', 'Johnny Reb', 'Sal's Got A Sugar Lip', 'Sink The Bismarck' and of course 'The Battle Of New Orleans', but he also performs songs that won't be as familiar to collectors, like 'Electrified Donkey', 'Be Honest With Me' (as part of a trio with Eddy Arnold and Molly Bee), and 'I'm A Fishing Man'. Even though there are no published interviews with Johnny Horton, on this DVD he talks with the hosts of the Ozark Jubilee show Red Foley, Bobby Lord, and Eddy Arnold. An essential complement to Bear Family's definitive history of Johnny Horton's recordings! A NOTE ON FILM QUALITY: Bear Family has always made a sustained commitment to quality. This DVD was sourced from original films and kinescopes, now fifty or sixty years old. Some, especially those sourced from 'Jubilee USA' kinescopes, are not as clear as we would have liked, but they are the only known copies. We feel that their historic value outweighs the technical imperfections. |

| Johnny Otis - On The Show - The Johnny Otis Story Vol. 2 1957-1974 Johnny Otis celebrated his 90th birthday on 28 December 2011 – a true landmark for a man who has given most of his life to music. Ace is commemorating the event with the release of this collection, which together with “The Johnny Otis Story Vol 1” (CDCHD 1312) presents a concise overview of his entire career as a composer, musician, singer, producer, talent scout and songwriter. “On With The Show” lives up to its title by picking up Johnny’s story from just before where the first volume left off, and carrying it through to the mid-70s – the point at which he stopped releasing new music and began diversifying his talents into cultural, spiritual and political areas. As did other R&B pioneers, Johnny had a lean time in the early and mid-1960s, at least as far as the charts went, but a string of Capitol 45s – including ‘Castin’ My Spell’, ‘Crazy Country Hop’ and ‘Mumblin’ Mosie’, all featured here – offer as good a representation of rock’n’roll as you’ll find anywhere. Many of Johnny’s King recordings are also invigorating, as those in this package will demonstrate. It’s hardly his fault that people were buying Fabian, Frankie Avalon, the 4 Seasons and the Beatles instead. Johnny gave up recording for a few years before returning with the estimable “Cold Shot” album and the R&B/Pop hit ‘Country Girl’, both featuring the burgeoning talents of his young son Shuggie. They led to a full-on revival of the Johnny Otis Show and to further recordings for Epic, the best of which are featured here. Things began to tail off again in the mid-70s in the wake of the disco boom. The big band funk of his movie-inspired ‘Jaws’ shows that he could have competed in the disco arena, should he have chosen to, but a man with as many things going on as Johnny Otis didn’t have to compete with anyone, and he just expanded his horizons elsewhere instead. Post-‘Jaws’, Johnny has been a radio DJ, ordained minster, artist, author and many other things. Most people would be delighted to have accomplished a fraction of what he has done. Unfortunately, we can’t all be the Godfather of Rhythm & Blues, but we can all enjoy his work for many years to come thanks to the fine compilations available on Ace and elsewhere. If you don’t know Johnny Otis but want to start, this collection and the previous volume will serve as the perfect introduction to the man and his music. Tony Rounce (Ace Records) |

| Johnny Otis - That's Your Last Boogie! - The Best of Johnny Otis 3CD The Best Of Johnny Otis 1945-1960‘Godfather of Rhythm & Blues’ Johnny Otis, one of the founding fathers of rock ’n’ roll, is next up in Dave Penny’s Architects Of Rock ’N’ Roll series, represented on a stellar collection straddling his multi-faceted career between 1945-1960.By sheer tragic coincidence, Dave had Otis lined up as a prime subject when planning the series over a year ago but January 17, 2012 saw the pioneering singer, songwriter, bandleader, talent spotter, impresario and disc jockey pass away at home in California, aged 90. These carefully-selected and sequenced 83 tracks spread over three CDs now stand as an ultimate tribute to this pivotal figure. The son of Greek immigrants (real name Ioannis Alexandros Veliotes), Otis grew up in the predominantly black area of Berkeley, telling an interviewer in 1994, ‘Genetically, I’m pure Greek. Psychologically, environmentally, culturally, by choice, I’m a member of the black community.’ As such, he played a major part in creating a new sound for the growing audience of young urban blacks, starting out drumming in swing orchestras at 18. He formed a 16-piece big band in 1945, scoring his first hit with a glorious take on ‘Harlem Nocturne’. CD1’s sublime smorgasbord of big band jazz and slinky blues, entitled Barrelhouse Stomp after the Watts club he opened in 1948, features further Otis orchestra titles alongside outings with Wynonie Harris, Joe Turner, Lester Young, (future Coasters) the Robins and Little Esther Phillips. In 1949, Otis started recording for the Newark, New Jersey-based Savoy label, scoring 15 Billboard R&B chart hits between 1950-52, including number ones with Little Esther & Mel Walker which dominate CD2’s Rockin’ Blues, joined by names including the Royals and Marilyn Scott. In 1952, Otis discovered Etta James and produced Big Mama Thornton’s original version of Leiber and Stoller’s ‘Hound Dog’, while enjoying a growing career as a songwriter, already presenting the rock ’n’ roll form and attitude soon to sweep the world. While starting his lifelong vocation as a disc jockey in LA, he became a talent scout for King Records, while scoring the late fifties hits (including 1958 US top tenner ‘Willie And The Hand Jive’) featured on CD3’s Going Crazy (1952-1960). Other names included on this most rocking of selections include Etta James, Little Richard, Pete ‘Guitar’ Lewis, Johnny Ace, Sugar Pie, Faye Wilson and Mr Goggle Eyes August.Johnny’s passion, benevolence, warmth and uncanny musical clairvoyance shines through every track on this magnificent set, capturing many of his achievements at this most crucial time in musical history. That aside, it also happens to be one hell of a party album for the summer. |

| King Curtis - Wail Man Wail ! - The Best Of King Curtis 1952-61 3CD The Best Of King Curtis 1952-1961 Saxophone titan King Curtis gets the stellar showcase he deserves on Dave Penny’s latest career-defining set for Fantastic Voyage, continuing the roll which has seen the label raise the benchmark for knowledgeable, expertly-annotated compilations. Over three discs and nearly 100 tracks, Wail Man Wail! traverses the unmistakable tones of the late Curtis Ousley after he arrived from Texas in New York City in 1952, winning amateur night at Harlem’s Apollo before embarking on a recording career which took him to several seminal independent labels and bands with the likes of Lester Young and Lionel Hampton. He settled in New York for 17 years, declaring himself King Curtis and quickly making a name for roaring instrumentals and enhancing countless sessions. With the assistance of K.C. expert Roy Simmonds, Dave Penny has excelled himself in providing both beginner’s guide and record collector’s magnet, starting with Curtis’ riproaring role in the earliest days of rock ’n’ roll on CD1, collating outings under his own name for labels such as RPM, Gem, Apollo, DeLuxe, Atlantic/Atco, ABC-Paramount, Everest and Sue, also encompassing his time with Alan Freed’s rock ’n’ roll orchestra. Titles include his debut, ‘Tenor In The Sky’, ‘Honeydripper’, ‘Dynamite’ and ‘Wicky Wacky’. Discs 2 and 3 chart some of his many memorable recording sessions from between 1952 to 1957, then 1958 to 1961, respectively, names including Solomon Burke, the Willows, Roy Gaines, Neil Sedaka, Wilbert Harrison, Ruth Brown, the Coasters, Waylon Jennings, Lionel Hampton, Bobby Darin, Chuck Willis, the Avons, the Willows, Mickey & Sylvia, the Nitecaps and obscurities such as Washboard Bill. King Curtis was yet another name to fall victim to an early demise, in his case stabbed to death in 1971 after challenging two junkies using drugs outside his Manhattan apartment. Just the groin-rasping solo on ‘Jest Smoochin’’ is enough to convince anyone with a heart and soul that they’re in the presence of greatness. There are scores of similar moments on Wail Man Wail!, the latest instalment in Fantastic Voyage’s The Architects Of Rock ’N’ Roll series, and an exemplary tribute to one of the musical giants of the last century. |

| Marv Johnson - Marvelous Marv Johnson Detroit gifted singer, songwriter and pianist Marv Johnson was a seminal figure in the early history of Motown Records. Responsible for more than a handful of hits between 1959 and 1960, he enjoyed no less than nine records in the top 100 as well as two songs on the top ten chart, after being chosen by the record producer Berry Gordy as the first artist to be released on his fledging record label TAMLA, in which Marv kept recording and working on sales and promotion until the late 70s. Often overlooked compared to the other great R&B stars of those years, Johnson's rich legacy includes dozens of brilliant soulful songs, like the immortal chart-smasher "You Got What It Takes" and the classic "Come To Me". |

| Memphis Slim - Rockin' The House- The Best Of The R&B Years 2CD The Best Of The R&B Years – Dazzling R&B piano pioneer Memphis Slim is the subject of the latest release in Fantastic Voyage’s highly-popular Definitive Collection series of blues sets. Compiled and annotated by blues authority Neil Slaven, the two discs of Rockin’ The House straddle Slim’s post-war years up until he became one of the foremost figures in the early ’60s folk-blues revival, spotlighting his top-notch R&B band. The 50 tracks take in recordings he made for labels such as Hy-Tone, Miracle, Premium, Mercury, Peacock, United, Vee-Jay, United Artists and Strand, and include all seven of his R&B hits Born John L. Chatman in Memphis in 1915, Slim cut his musical teeth playing anywhere from levee camps to Arkansas roadhouses then Beale Street bars, mentored by Roosevelt Sykes. He arrived in Chicago in 1937, initially bootlegging whiskey, said to have been a pimp, playing piano to pay for his gambling until cutting several singles and hooking up with Big Bill Broonzy in 1940. After World War Two, Slim started leading his R&B band, which, at times, boasted the great bassist-songwriter Willie Dixon and future Blues Brother Matt ‘Guitar’ Murphy. The compilation starts in 1946 with ‘Mistake In Life’, Slim’s first release on the local Hy-Tone label, followed by further tracks for the label including the rollicking ‘Slim’s Boogie’ and trademark melancholic blues template ‘Cheatin’ Around’. He first encountered Willie Dixon recording for the Miracle label, the pair sparking their relationship on the blistering ‘Rockin’ The House’ and sublime ‘Lend Me Your Love’. From here the highlights come thick and fast: hits for Miracle, including chart-topping ‘Messin’ Around’, ‘Blue And Lonesome‘, ‘Help Me Some’, ‘Angel Child’, sonorous Premium release ‘Mother Earth’, ‘The Come Back’ (predating the stop-start groove of ‘Hoochie Coochie Man’), the autobiographical boogie of ‘Harlem Bound’, sax-enhanced outings such as ‘Train Is Comin’’, ‘Worried Life Blues’ (as covered by Keith Richards), lascivious Nick Cave fave ‘Grinder Man Blues’, the steaming vamp of ‘Steppin’ Out’ (later Eric Clapton’s showstopping showcase with John Mayall) and aching ‘Nobody Loves Me’ (the original title by which he first recorded the classic ‘Every Day I Have The Blues’, as made famous by B.B. King). The early 1950s tracks with Murphy’s riveting guitar to the fore are also represented, through to later sessions for Vee-Jay and three tracks from the 1959 Carnegie Hall concert with Muddy Waters which marked the start of the blues’ burgeoning acceptance by white audiences. From levee camps and roadhouses to Beale Street and white clubs, Slim was working his way up and was early in the charge as blues ambassador to Europe, recording several albums there before returning to Chicago to cut an exemplary batch of songs including ‘Lonesome (Blue Blues)’, ‘Four Walls’, ’Big Bertha’ and ’I’ll Keep Singing The Blues’. Based in Paris from 1962 until his death in 1988, he left a voluminous and captivating recorded legacy, of which one of its most fertile and seminal stretches is featured on this stellar set. |

A true "renaissance man," Ed "Big Daddy" Roth excelled in a number of pursuits. Artist, cartoonist, car-customizer and pinstriper were but a few of his specialties. Growing up in California, surrounded by the surf and hot rod movements of the late '50s, Roth's expansive imagination was set in motion and popular culture would never be the same. Working closely with Ed Roth, who assumed the nom du disc "Mr. Gasser," Fred Rice carefully selected vocalists and musicians for the recording session. Gary Usher assembled and led the vocal talent, which included Jackie "Robyn" Ward, Chuck Girard, Richard Burns and Darlene Love. And how's this for a guitar line-up: Glen Campbell, Jerry Cole and Howard Roberts! On drums you've the great Hal Blaine. Meanwhile, Cliff Hils anchored the bass position and Leon Russell played piano while Steve Douglas wailed on sax. What a fabulous group of "Weirdos"! The combination of A-list players and a top-notch studio produced a superior-sounding LP, every bit the sonic equal of contemporary recordings from stars like the Super Stocks and the Beach Boys. |

| Mr. Gasser & The Weirdos - Rods N' Ratfinks When it came time to follow up the success of Hot Rod Hootenanny, Capitol's Fred Rice wisely stuck to the arithmetic of the first LP: great Ed "Big Daddy" Roth-inspired songs + the best session musicians + Capitol Studios = another outrageous LP! Rods n' Ratfinks continued the party started on the first album under the direction of Gary Usher. Piling in the Weirdos' woodie for this road trip were Glen Campbell, James Burton and Billy Strange on guitar, Ernie Freeman on piano, Carol Kaye and Steve LaFever on bass, Earl Palmer on drums and Steve Douglas on sax. Gary Usher, Richard Burns and Chuck Girard returned to do vocal duty. And, of course, "Big Daddy" himself created another screaming-technicolor-suitable-for-framing LP cover! Looking at the illustration, if you peep past the wacked-out jalopy, you'll spy Rat Fink hanging at least two as he shoots the curl. Take that, Sponge Bob! | Mr. Gasser And The Weirdos - Surfink ! originally released in 1964 on Capitol Records. In April 1964, Mr. Gasser and the Weirdos reconvened in Capitol Studios to record the third installment of their surf rod trilogy, Surfink! It was their hottest album yet, combining clever parody songs like "Surfer Ghoul" with knock-out instrumentals like "Midnight Run" and "Santa Barbara" that stand alongside the best singles of the surf era. Fuel-injecting the Weirdo wagon this time around were Jerry Cole, David Gates and Neil Levang on guitars, Leon Russell on piano, Steve LeFever on bass, Earl Campbell on drums and Steve Douglas on saxophone. The vocal department again featured Gary Usher, Richard Burns and Chuck Girard. The sonic quality of the original recordings is astounding! Saxman Douglas rips, honks and wails with absolute authority while the guitars of Cole, Gates and Levang cover the gamut of classic six-string tones. Palmer's drum kit and cymbals sound so crisp you'd swear he was right there in the room and LeFever's bass anchors the bottom beautifully. The album is a testament to vintage analog recording and one that could also serve double duty as an audiophile test LP. A true "renaissance man," Ed "Big Daddy" Roth excelled in a number of pursuits. Artist, cartoonist, car-customizer and pinstriper were but a few of his specialties. | Muddy Waters - You Shook Me 2CD The Chess Masters Vol. 3 1958-1963. Six years after the last set of Muddy Waters’ Chess recordings by Hip-O Select, the boutique label will release You Shook Me: The Chess Masters Volume 3 1958-1963 next week. While Waters’ profile was well on the rise before the period covered on this two-disc set – having put singles like “I’m Your Hoochie Coochie Man,” “I Just Want to Make Love to You” and “Mannish Boy” in the upper reaches of the R&B charts – You Shook Me is notable for being anchored not only around single releases but two of Waters’ first LPs. 1960′s Muddy Waters Sings “Big Bill” was a tribute to Big Bill Broonzy, the Chicago bluesman who gave Waters one of his first major professional breaks opening for him at local clubs. The other, recorded that same year, was Muddy Waters at Newport 1960, a killer of a live album that featured revelatory versions of “Hoochie Coochie Man” and “Got My Mojo Workin.’” This 49-track set also includes one unreleased instrumental, “Sweet Black Angel,” and a handful of songs that appeared only on a multi-LP box set of Waters’ Chess output released in Japan. Mary Katherin Aldin pens liner notes for the booklet, which is filled with rare photos of Waters in action. |

| Paul Kelly - Hot Runnin' Soul Southern soul singer-songwriter Paul Kelly is a real hero of mine, and I’m sure that many Right Track readers and Kent customers feel the same way. He has been poorly served by the CD market, so it’s a real pleasure to make amends with this collection of his early solo 45s, a more than worthy representation of the first six years of his lengthy recording career. His catalogue has long cried out for reissue – particularly these early years, which have never been fully chronicled – and I’m very proud that the honour of bringing all this great music together fell to me. Paul recorded less frequently than many of his peers, but the upshot of that is that all of his solo recordings from 1965 to 1971 can fit onto one CD. The fact that most of his tracks were cut independently by one producer, the great Buddy Killen, and leased to a variety of imprints means that there were virtually no licensing difficulties to surmount – once we’d decided to do it, the project fell into place swiftly and easily. Our collection contains all of Paul’s singles for the Lloyd, Dial, Philips and Happy Tiger labels, exactly as they were issued – mostly mono, but in stereo when they were originally released that way. Most Kelly fans will tell you that Paul is never better than when he’s singing something slow, and cite tracks such as ‘If This Old House Could Talk’, ‘The Day After Forever’, the under-rated ‘Sailin’’ and the simply magnificent ‘Nine Out Of Ten Times’ as proof. While it’s hard to contest that, Paul was equally at home with up-tempo material, and you need look no further than the club classics ‘Chills And Fever’ and ‘Sweet Sweet Lovin’’ to confirm that: Paul’s career song, ‘Stealing In the Name Of The Lord’, is a dancer of sorts, while the brilliant ‘509’ demonstrates that the faster side of his repertoire is, at its best, more than a match for his slower numbers. With the exception of ‘Stealing’, none of these records were massive chart hits, although they deserved to be. They most likely failed to chart because they were competing with so many other great records, and there simply wasn’t room for every classic 45 to make a mark on the R&B charts back then. Happily for Paul, southern soul fans never put much stock in chart positions. Regardless of how many copies they sold on release, the best of the tracks on “Hot Runnin’ Soul” – and that’s almost all of them – will continued to be revered in soul circles for many years to come. | Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel - Two Teenagers - The Singles 1957-1961 There have been many collections of these pre Simon & Garfunkel releases but this is the first chronological compilation to feature all of their commercially released singles between 1957 and 1961. Includes tracks originally recorded as Tom & Jerry, Jerry Landis, Artie Garr and Tico & The Triumphs plus rare solo singles from both Art and Paul. The music on this disc is a far cry from the music that Simon and Garfunkel produced over the last forty years yet all of it captures the American pop music world in the years just before the pop British Invasion better than any greatest hits collection of the era ever could. Fully detailed liner notes with biography and career achievements. |

| Priscilla Paris - Love, Priscilla “She was a conundrum.” The words of her older sister Albeth ring true, not just for Priscilla Paris’ life, but for her musical career. This beautiful, intelligent young woman, the voice that launched a thousand transistor radios with the dreamy ‘I Love How You Love Me’, was a study in contradiction. Forthright yet extremely private, seemingly sure of herself while quite hopelessly lost. Long before their chart visibility at the turn of the 1960s, the Paris Sisters had been trained to be professional entertainers for the best part of a decade, and Priscilla yearned to break free, to rebel. This she did in several different ways, but the most significant was with her creativity; a bold move in an era when female artists of her ilk were poppets to be dangled by the likes of a Phil Spector. Her background was as a performer, not a writer, but Priscilla was determined to say what she needed to say, in song. On “Love, Priscilla”, the first ever collection of her 1960s solo recordings, we hear both sides of Ms Paris. The consummate professional, whose phrasing and exceptional microphone technique was amongst the best in the business; and the earnest, searching singer-songwriter looking so very desperately for a way to convey what she felt inside. The paradox is particularly evident in her debut album from 1967, the enchanting “Priscilla Sings Herself”, where on the one hand, she spoke of ‘Wandering,’ yet openly declared ‘I’m Home’. Or reversed the cheerful sentiment of ‘I Can’t Complain’ with an urgent plea to ‘Help Me’. All these anomalies create the unseen tension that can so often transform straightforward good music into something very special indeed. An altogether more relaxed Priss is evident upon “Priscilla Loves Billie”, a classily arranged set of Billie Holliday covers released in 1969. Four recently discovered tracks from the same year feature on “Love, Priscilla”: one tune in particular, ‘Some Little Lovin’ Lie’, is amongst the best productions of her career. By that time, The Paris Sisters had split and Priscilla was on her own, but her solo career would never gain traction, and eventually she would move to Europe, passing tragically in her adopted home Paris in 2004. I’ve been a fan of the Paris Sisters for many years, but it wasn’t until the assembly of this compilation that I really began to understand, and fully appreciate, Priscilla’s artistry. Discussing Priss with her sisters Albeth and Sherrell, manager Clancy Grass, and arranger (and one-time paramour) Don Peake, a picture emerged of her as a true maverick; a one-of-a-kind talent who shone brightly when she chose to, but was never truly able to capitalize on her abilities, or the unique gift she had with a song. What remains however, in the work of the Paris Sisters, and the solo recordings collected on “Love Priscilla”, is a legacy that resonates deeply with anyone who hears it. No singer could ask for a more fitting tribute than that. By Alec Palao (Ace Records) |

| Red Sovine - I'm The Man - A Starday Singles Anthology It’s probably fair to say that Red Sovine isn’t regarded as a country music superstar in the way his early career-boosters Hank Williams and Webb Pierce are, or that he is spoken of regularly in the same breath as his peers Buck Owens, Ray Price and George Jones. Yet Red’s solid baritone is the very essence of country music, and the majority of the 400-odd sides he recorded in his 21-year career back up that statement in an unqualified manner. When Red’s name is spoken, it’s usually with reference to his big hits ‘Teddy Bear’, ‘Giddy up Go’, ‘Phantom 309’ and several other emotional recitations he cut in the 60s and 70s for Starday Records. Although they were an undoubted boon to his career, they have tended to obscure the fact that he really was a great country singer, and as a vocalist on a par with any member of his peer group. This is Ace’s second dip into the huge stockpile of Red’s Starday masters, the first being “Honky Tonks, Truckers & Tears” CDCHD 1052. “I’m The Man” strives to address this by providing a cross-section of his work that concentrates on the singles he cut during his first lengthy tenure with the Nashville indie – which lasted from 1960 to 1971 with a couple of brief breaks. To keep it representative, we’ve included one recitation (‘I Think I Can Sleep Tonight’) and one truckin’ song (‘King Of the Open Road’), but the main focus is on the unadulterated, full-on country music Red recorded during this period. There are some great on-the-fours honky tonk shuffles to enjoy, including ‘I Hope My Wife Don’t Find Out’ and the fabulous Justin Tubb song ‘She Can’t Read My Writing’. Red’s late 60s revivals of the 40s hillbilly perennials ‘Blues Stay Away From Me’, ‘I’m Waiting Just For You’ and ‘I’ll Sail My Ship Alone’ are as terrific as you might expect from a man who’d probably been singing them his whole career. His early 60s covers of more contemporary songs stack up well against the originals by Charlie Rich (a sublime ‘Sittin’ And Thinkin’’) and George Jones (a whole raft of songs, including ‘Color Of The Blues’, ‘Accidentally On Purpose’ and ‘Why Baby Why’). On these and other songs here Red is backed by key Nashville A-list pickers including pianist Pig Robbins, bass man Junior Huskey and steel player supreme Pete Drake. You don’t get to work with that calibre of musician if you don’t match up vocally. There’s a third volume of Red’s Starday recordings in the pipeline, consisting exclusively of his versions of 60s country classics that became hits for his Grand Ole Opry colleagues. Meanwhile, it’s time to “pop a top” and immerse yourself in some of the best ever sides from a true giant of country music. |

| Rory Storm And The Hurricanes - LIve At The Jive Hive March 1960 "Although the history of Merseybeat & the growth of the Beatles have been examined in forensic detail there are still discoveries to be made & sometimes something special comes along that is both unexpected and exciting. How come over 50 years on we now have a full set from Rory Storm & The Hurricanes in 1960? They are on great form and whats more the set has been professionally recorded". "As someone who has followed every niche of Merseybeat I have never come across anything like this & I am delighted to be telling you about it. Although up to 125 Liverpool beat groups were performing at any one time over the city and it's suburbs precious few live recordings were made & this is the first time that a full set from a Merseyside group recorded before 1963 has been released. |
