David Stubbs - ACE RECORDS Book
To read Ace Records is to explore the history of modern music and to discover the stories of the people that made it. Visually stunning and hugely entertaining, the book chronicles this fascinating label and profiles a diverse range of artists including BB King, John Fahey, Lee Hazlewood and Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers.

From humble beginnings at a London market stall, Ace Records has gone on to change the face of popular music. Now the world’s foremost blues, rockabilly, soul and rock 'n' roll reissue label, Ace Records has been responsible for unearthing lost classics and neglected pioneers for over three decades, and provided some of the finest and most influential records of the post-war era. The first comprehensive history of this fascinating label, Ace Records takes in some of the finest and most enduring modern music, rock 'n' roll, soul, funk, blues, jazz, R&B, garage rock and punk.

Based on the core values of reclamation, restoration and research, Ace Records has travelled far and wide—resurrecting the forgotten giants of the American music scene. From the earliest pre-war blues and Cajun recordings made in the Deep South, to the explosion of rock 'n' roll, to the soaring soul sounds of the 1960s and 70s, the label has rescued a rich cultural legacy and preserved this music for generations to come. Signing some of the most exciting young rock 'n' roll bands to come out of the UK, Ace Records christened the burgeoning psychobilly genre as it championed bands like The Meteors and The Cramps.

Illustrated with many unseen archive photographs dating back to the 1920s, rare artwork and newspaper clippings, and written by established music journalist and author David Stubbs, Ace Records is a highly entertaining and visually stunning guide to a pioneering alternative to the mainstream UK music scene.

Some advance praise-

'A shop ran by fanatics for fanatics. Ace Records carries on the tradition. Long Live Rock & Roll.'
Bobby Gillespie

'Ace Records pioneered the meticulously curated, elegantly packaged reissue decades in advance of today’s boom for “salvage” labels like Soul Jazz. Digging deep in the crates to unearth lost gems of soul, rockabilly, rhythm-and-blues, and much more besides, the label delivered these treasures to the world with style and integrity. In the process, Ace has walked the line between art and business as deftly as non-retro labels like Island, Mute and Warp each did in their prime. With this vivid and insightful chronicle, veteran music writer David Stubbs pays glowing tribute to a record company that was ahead of its time in being behind of its time.

Tio I Topp (with a bonus CD) - Eric Hallberg & Ulf Henningsson
About the book: This is the definitive book about "Tio i Topp" the legendary and beloved radio show that influenced Swedish pop history like no other program! In fact, in the middle of the 60ies the weekly show had a 3 million people audience!

Every Saturday 15 o'clock the title melody "Hully Gully Twist" streamed out of the radio speakers, while Swedens teenagers sat in front of their radios listening carefully. Each week the program elected the most popular songs with the help of a new invention called: mentometer.

"Tio i topp" was aired between 1961 and 1974. The book covers all(!) artists who had at least one record on the Tio i Topp-charts, and even those who didn't make it, but who got a chance on the programs section "På Försök". Alltogether the book portraits 946 artists with new and meticolously reserched biographies. All 1500 records that have been presented on the Tio i Topp-charts are illustrated with cover! All 659 charts, incl. "Sommartoppen" (summer charts) are featured, so that the reader easily can find out what the most popular songs were!

The book bases on many years of research and is build up on the Swedish radios (SR) original show journals.

BONUS CD

In this first edition of the book, a bonus CD is included! The CD contains a 60 minute excerpt from the original program, presenting several music tracks, menometer buttons, title melodies and much more! The show host Klas Burling presents several show excerpts and shares his personal memories!

Preface by Klas Burling and Svenne Hedlund (Hep Stars).

The book contains about 2000 illustrations!

Yeah ! Yeah ! Yeah ! - The Beatles Erövrar Sverige - Börje Lundberg & Ammi Bohm
Authors: Börje Lundberg & Ammi Bohm

About the book: In the autumn of 1963, four young Englishmen landed on Arlanda airport in Stockholm. Their hair was a bit on the long side, but otherwise they seemed neat, polite and friendly. The four boys were, of course, John, Paul, George and Ringo – The Beatles. On their visit, they carried with them a new sound and a new style. Sweden and the world were never the same again.

On October 23, 2003, the dream book for everybody who loves The Beatles is published: YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! – The Beatles erövrar Sverige. It’s 40 years to the day since the four Englishmen visited Sweden for the first time. Back then, the Beatles had just hit the big time with songs such as ”Please Please Me”, ”From Me To You” and ”She Loves You”.

The visit to Sweden was their very first tour outside Great Britain, and included performances in the towns of Karlstad, Eskilstuna, Gothenburg, Borås and Stockholm. During their stay in Sweden they also found time to appear on radio and television – today these recordings are legendary and have been seen and heard by millions all over the world. In 1964 The Beatles were back in Sweden again – now as international superstars!

In YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! – The Beatles erövrar Sverige, journalists Börje Lundberg and Ammi Bohm have charted The Beatles’ adventures in Sweden – day by day, minute by minute. Lundberg and Bohm let us relive everything that happened: the chaotic concerts, the reception by the dedicated fans, the reactions in the media. The story is largely told trough new interviews with more than 100 people who met The Beatles in Sweden: famous artists, legendary radio and television hosts, wide-eyed fans who could socialise with the band almost as if they were close friends – and many more! The authors have also interviewed other Swedes with a Beatles connection: for example Peter Goldman, who directed the pioneering videos for “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “Penny Lane”.

"What an exciting time travel it has been writing this book", says Börje Lundberg. "The 60is are still alive! People enjoy hearing stories about their idols, The Beatles."

Some of Swedens premier Beatles experts have contributed with facts and stories to this book. YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! The Beatles erövrar Sverige is richly illustrated with hundreds of pictures - many of them previously unpublished!

The book concludes with a discography of all Beatles records which have been released in Sweden. All records are illustrated in color, complete with background information and a valuation guide!

BONUS CD

The book includes the Bonus CD "Burling möter Beatles" ("Burling meets The Beatles"). For the first time on CD we can enjoy Klas Burling interviewing The Beatles at several occasions: shortly before their first visit in Sweden; only minutes after landing on the Swedish airport Arlanda, in 1964; and during their stay in Sweden. The Bonus CD also includes a unique sound document of four young lads, just in the beginning of their fantastic career!
